This was almost a 3 star review, but some key points of service really make this location fantastic to go dine at. The service is definitely 5 stars, and the food (due to the dessert) is probably a 4.
I reserved a spot for 2 for dinner and mentioned that we are coming for my wife's birthday. When we came and got seated at the table near the kitchen, I was disappointed since I assumed we would be given a nicer seat to celebrate. When our hostess sat us down and asked about the occasion, my wife replied that it was her birthday, and was met with an OK in response. Now I'm sure the hostess sees 200 birthdays a day, but I think it would be expected that at least an automatic Happy Birthday would be rehearsed. It felt like we were unimportant at a nice place like this.
We decided to stay and ordered Classic Sirloin (wife) and Sirloin Oscar (me). Our bread starter was fantastic - hot and delicious. My wife loved her salad and her main dish. I loved the taste, however, there was a tough tendon running right through the meat. I deliberated and decided to send it back, considering this was a nice meal (we don't usually voice any concerns). Our waitress, Briar, was very apologetic and had another one made. Meanwhile, the manager came by and expressed his apologies. The second sirloin that arrived, had a connective tissue on the whole base that I couldn't even cut through with the steak knife. Again, extremely apologetic, they had the meat sent back while I ate the side dish. 7 minutes later, a tenderloin was brought to me which was perfect. The twice baked potato was delicious, the green bean and pepper side was great and the Oscar addition (seafood and sauce) really added to the meal.
Even through the hiccups, what made this a 5 star review is the response of the team to the issue that was presented. They took great care of me and my wife, and adjusted for the errors that were made in the kitchen. After all of this, my plate was on the house. This was done quietly on the bill when it was brought, without mentioning it to me, which I thought was a very humble approach.
The cheesecake we had didn't have the rich cheesiness you would expect. It would most accurately be described as a carrot cake frosting that is formed into a cheesecake. It was way too smooth and did not have the texture of a cheesecake.
Everything considered, I would attend again. I would probably ask for a booth specifically, and go for a different dessert, but wouldn't change much else. This KEG has the food that you would usually expect from this franchise, but staff that were miles above other KEGs we...
Read moreUsed to be great back when it was in the old CPR station on Richmond St. Apart from when it just opened, since it's moved to Masonville it seems like all the good servers and chefs left and the whole thing has gone downhill.
This place now hands out buzzers when you're waiting to be seated, but they'll buzz for people who came in after you so it seems like it's just a lottery rather than like waiting in line. The last time I went there with family, we were sat waiting for a table for 20 minutes while the entire time we could see 4 empty tables from where we were sitting. We were not seated until I pointed this out to the front of house who seemed more interested in chatting than doing their job. They honestly made us feel unwelcome and like we were an inconvenience.
The service here the last 3 or 4 times I've been has been beyond bad. We felt like we were the absolute lowest priority table for our server, so much so that we actually decided not to leave a tip. If you like having "bare minimum" service where your table is barely visited then go here - I hope you don't like ordering additional drinks because you won't get asked if you want any.
I don't think they've ever gotten a single steak order correct for us since they moved to Masonville either. They seem to serve their steaks underdone, so if you order medium you get medium rare or rare. I assume this is because the kitchen is rushing, but seriously maybe they should just use steak thermometers because their chefs clearly aren't skilled enough to do it correctly without them.
The rest of the meals are now pretty mediocre too, most menu items used to come with at least two vegetables, now most of them seem to be just one. So you'll get a steak and it will just come with 4 stalks of asparagus, and that'll be $30. Absolute rip off.
They screw it up so often and it's such bad value for money that I gave up ordering steak here so the last time I went I just ordered the burger, which I figured would be hard to mess up, but they still screwed it up because it was soggy, and they burned the fries. Like seriously guys, Wendys can do a burger and fries better than you can at this point.
I wish I could know exactly what happened to this place to make it so bad. The Keg used to be my go-to recommendation for visitors because it was once so consistent. Now I recommend people go elsewhere....
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at The Keg Steakhouse, and overall, it was a memorable experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant's elegant decor and cozy ambiance set the stage for a delightful evening.
The highlight of my visit was, of course, the steak. The Keg Steakhouse knows how to prepare a great steak. I opted for their signature filet mignon, and it was cooked to perfection. The steak was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. It was a satisfying indulgence for any meat lover.
The attention to detail and quality extended beyond the steak itself. The side dishes and accompaniments were tasty and well-prepared. The Keg offers a variety of options, from creamy mashed potatoes to fresh seasonal vegetables. Each dish was presented beautifully and contributed to the overall enjoyment of the meal.
The service at The Keg Steakhouse was commendable. The staff members were attentive and friendly, ensuring that my dining experience was pleasant. They were knowledgeable about the menu and provided recommendations when needed.
The Keg also offers a diverse drink menu. I had the opportunity to try one of their handcrafted cocktails, and it was skillfully made and enjoyable. The drink selection catered to different preferences, adding to the overall dining experience.
While The Keg Steakhouse provided a satisfying dining experience, there were a few areas where improvements could be made. The wait time for a table was longer than expected, and the noise level in the restaurant was occasionally quite high, making conversation a bit challenging at times.
However, despite these minor drawbacks, The Keg Steakhouse remains a reliable choice for a quality steakhouse experience. The food is delicious, the service is attentive, and the atmosphere is pleasant. I recommend giving it a try for a special occasion or when craving a well-prepared steak.
Overall, I rate The Keg Steakhouse with four out of five stars. It's definitely a restaurant worth visiting for a memorable...
