Let me be clear; I really love Shelbys; I was there since day 0 on their original opening of the Horton location, and I've been supporting and watching them grow ever since. This store has LOST the Shelby's way. I never want to review a Shelbys store negatively; however, the incompetence and repeated disappointment I experience at this location have become too much. I don't ever want to be told by a group of workers that they "don't know" what's in the fatoush dressing, and none of the employees could answer that question for me. This last visit did me in. The worker had barely enough lettuce and clearly didn't want to put more out. My fiance's half rice half Shelbys salad turned into 3/4 rice and 1/4 Shelbys salad. My chicken shawarma had legitimately 5 PIECES of lettuce on it. She was also too involved in conversing with her coworker to even see if she was topping my wrap correctly; it ended up with ONE pickled turnip and two very small slices of pickle. The Saj bread they made me was also raw, which further enhanced this experience. It's unfortunately VERY clear that this store needs retraining badly. I looked past the fact on other visits that we caught a worker blowing her nose with gloves on and then keeping the same gloves on and fully handling fries. We overlooked the fact that we may (because we can't prove it) have gotten food poisoning from this place, but with the poor standards of this particular Shelbys, we didn't put it past as a likely possibility. There's more I can say as I've been and tried this place a few times as it's the closest one we live to, but I think this review and what has been stated can paint a big enough picture. I'll be happy to revise this review when it becomes clear that the workers care for the product they are serving and have been trained properly, but until then, I'll keep...
Read moreI purchased a shawarma bowl on October 15th, aka Shawarma Day. They gave me a beef shawarma bowl with a little salad on the side, a little garlic, and tahini enough to substitute for the lack of garlic, which wasn't what I hoped they'd give me, as I wanted a decent amount of garlic.
The shawarma was engulfed by the tahini, which made it not taste so good, and the ratio of rice to shawarma was way off. I was eating straight up rice with tahini for most of the bowl because there was so little shawarma, and there was more rice than there should have been.
Also, the bowl was two-thirds full, aka their portions aren't so good. Furthermore, on a regular day, I would have paid 15 bucks for the same thing, which is disappointing, as 9 bucks on deal didn't seem like a good deal considering the mediocre taste and their portions not being so good.
Also, their restaurant wasn't busy, having 5 people waiting for their order, so there isn't much of an excuse for the disappointing food.
Overall, their bowl had good rice; the tahini was a bit much, to the point where the little amount of shawarma tasted not so good; the garlic was a little much; the little salad on the side of the bowl was good; their service was good; their seating was good; and their beef shawarma bowl was overall a 5/10. (I now believe that local non franchise middle eastern shawarma restaurants are superior to franchises for...
Read moreAfter this last experience, I feel like we will be looking for another place for shawarma.
We ordered: 1 chicken rice bowl 1 regular chicken pouting
The food arrived only luke-warm, like it had sat a long time before the driver picked it up; both dishes are fast to make, so they did not need to be pre-made and be waiting. Time management is important for this.
The rice bowl was okay; over flowing with toppings. The biggest issue we had was with the chicken shawarma poutine.
I requested the sauces on the side. The tiny containers of sauce would not be enough to cover 3 fries. The meal is supposed to come with parsley and feta on top; this did not happen. They also did not come on the side.
When I called the store, the woman insisted that she put both parsley and feta on the dish, but unless the feta and parsley grew legs and ran off, this just didn't happen. There was a tiny sprinkle Of parsley on the rice bowl, but no feta.
When I told her about the complete lack of sauce, she told me it was because I asked for sauce on the side. Why is it that if I ask for a simple modification, that it isn't matched to the regular way?
She then told me I just needed to ask for extra sauce. But why would I need to ask, especially because it lists they charge extra for sauce?
Shelbys has gone downhill since opening new places in London. For 16$, it just is...
