I was so excited to come to this location and I am very upset that it was very disappointing since I have been waiting for this place to open in London for so long. We saw it on the website and on their instagram that they have a 11.99 2 course lunch special. But when we ask the waitress she said they don’t have a lunch special. I had to double check on their website and their instagram that if it was only a weekday thing or this location doesn’t participate in this promotion.I double checked and it’s says it’s for all kinton ramen location and it says Monday -Sunday open to 3pm. I’m not sure if this was false advertising or the waitress just didn’t know but it definitely made us have a bad first impression for the place. Later on we had another waitress serving us. We order a beer combo and when she brought up the beer I was too stunned to speak. The cup with beer with the foam (which literally half of the beer ) was half full, meaning she gave us like quarter of a beer. I used to be a waitress and I have never told anyone that the beer is half full but the it was the most ridiculous pour I’ve ever gotten in my life, I would be embarrassed if I did that to a customer. the menu said 16 oz and the cup is exactly 16 oz, when we told her the cup is half empty she said oh okay and went back to get more. She came back with quarter of the beer being foam, it was good enough and we didn’t want to go through any hassle again. With the Combo, the beer comes about 8 dollars for a 16 oz, with the price we thought we would get a better pour the first time. The ramen didn’t have enough soup so the bowl looks very empty but I don’t really drink that much soup so that was fine with me but it just looks very sad. Overall the food was good for me I got amazing big pieces of pork but my friend who go spicy garlic beef that is 17.99 had very small portions of beef so he was a bit upset about that. The waitress was helping in the kitchen and we were patiently waiting for her to come back to ask us how it was or for the bill. But she was in the kitchen wiping cups and I was trying so hard to try to make eye contact with her so she will come over for sometime. It seems like she is still in training because she would come to us, stands behind us on her iPad trying to figure out how to use the system and was very frustrated. it was just very awkward and I wish she would have it ready before she came or not standing right by us and behind us on her iPad and we didn’t know how to act because she seems frustrated. I am not sure if she s just overwhelmed or just don’t know how to serve but she just seems angry and awkward. We saw the other server and she was so nice and energetic and was doing an amazing job explaining the ramen to other customers so I think our server just needs more training. I have been to many food places especially ramen places and I have never leave reviews. I really really want kinton in London location to do better because I really love ramen and want to...
Read moreI was eagerly awaiting their arrival to London after first hearing they were opening up. Unfortunately, to say that I'm disappointed in the food they had to offer would be an understatement.
I had tried the karaage, pork donburi, pork original ramen and the pork shoyu ramen. Although the karaage was light, crispy and juicy. The overall texture of the chicken itself greatly took away from the experience. The texture was almost like shredded chicken in how it tore in your mouth, along with a strange mixture add-in, more akin to a karaage "meatball" of sorts than a typical karaage. Both the original and shoyu versions of the pork ramen were severely lacking in flavour and depth. There was not even a hint of pork in the broth, with the predominant flavor being peppered water. The saving grace of the meal being the noodles, which had just the right amount of chew to them. The overall highlight of the meal was surprisingly the pork donburi. It was a classic mixture of familiar Japanese flavors that worked well with the plump rice grains. Although I was surprised that the dish was not served hot, and more room temperature.
Although they were having their soft opening, I was disappointed in the service. It was not at a level where an additional few days of extra training would take them to an adequate level appropriate for a grand opening. There seemed to be a lack of organization as servers didn't seem to be assigned to any particular tables throughout the service and it showed.
Overall, I was disappointed to say the least. I don't see any reason to come back...
Read moreToday, after a boring bus ride to Byron, I hopped off at Oxford St and Wonderland Rd. Originally, I was interested in the new Chinese supermarket. My attention was redirected to KINTON RAMEN because I was hungry and needed food fast.
My server briskly set me up at a table and gave me a rundown of the menu. The food came at a lightning pace! I waited no longer than 7 minutes for all my dishes to be served.
My first appetizer was Pork Donburi. I got this because of a key ingredient that I love: honey (it adds a natural sweetness). The others were chopped pork shoulder, KINTON shoyu sauce, red ginger, and rice. Its price was $8.99.
My second app was Hot Karaage. There were three pieces of fried chicken that looked like big meatballs. The key ingredient for this one was chili sauce (and chili powder). It costed $10.99
My choice of ramen was Pork Spicy Garlic. Chili pepper, pork, grated garlic, wood ear mushrooms, bamboo shoots, scallions were included. This dish was different from the apps: I added the key ingredient. It was a seasoned egg and costed an extra $1.99. Without the egg, this dish was $16.99.
KINTON RAMEN is a more than capable restaurant. They offer delicious, lesser-known Japanese food to accompany your...
