I'm pretty disappointed with the level of service and the microaggression I experienced from the baristas.
One of the girls asked me, "How are you?" with her back turned to me and a few steps away from the cash register. I said, "Good, thanks."
I waited for her to finish what she was doing. She turns to face me and says, "I said "How are you?""
I was thinking about my order and was taken aback by her tone but I merely responded with, "I said, "Good, thanks.""
At this, she looks at me like I slapped her in the face. Like the audacity of me for not asking her how she is.
I just want to highlight:
I ordered my beverage and a snack at two different times because I was still figuring out how she was treating me… and she didn't care to ask if I wanted anything else. She just gave me my total after I asked for my beverage. I didn't tip the first time because I was rushed, but I tipped when I ordered the cookie.
Then when I sat down to claim a seat, I could tell her and the other barista were eyeing me and talking about me. I get it. From her perspective, I might have come off rude but I assure you, I was very neutral in my responses and brief for a reason. I just wanted to get some research done before they closed.
When my drink was ready, I went up and the other barista told me that they closed at 5 and gave me my drink in a to-go cup and my cookie in a to-go bag even though I had my laptop with me and I had sat myself down. I told her, "Yes, that's fine" because, again, I knew what time the café closed as I had been there a few times before.
A bit into my drink, I realized it didn't taste the same as the other times. Halfway through, I realized it was regular milk. I'm not sure if this was on purpose but they didn't give me the correct order. Do we pay extra for substitution? I don't really know, but I do know my order and I am alright with paying extra. If this was done on purpose as petty revenge then its pure ignorance is concerning, considering the fact that some people have medical reasons for ordering lactose-free food items.
I have worked in customer service in my younger years and I do not think that I came off any type of way. I was just trying to give the café some business. Being penalized for not asking "How are you?" when I was talking to someone's back is one matter. Why would I want to make superficial conversation with a person whose tone resembled that of someone scolding a teenager. I am in my early to mid-30s, and although I might not look like it, being spoken to like that was also not fun considering I just wanted a late afternoon sugar rush. However, getting my order wrong is another matter. I did not want to complain lest I get another bad review as a customer.
I would hate to think that the same kindness, level of service and courtesy given to other customers was not extended to me for the mere fact that my physical features offended the original barista somehow. So, thank you for the not-so-pleasant experience. I am a person of colour, and yes, I have noticed this type of behaviour in the past and you can never quite get used to having to rationalize everything when at the end of the day, this is something you...
Read moreToday we visited The Lone Wolf Café in Orillia and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. From the interiors to the service, everything was just perfect. Upon walking in, I was immediately struck by the inviting ambiance of the place. The café is decorated tastefully, with an interior that is eclectic yet cohesive. The atmosphere feels warm and relaxing - an ideal environment for sipping a hot beverage or enjoying a leisurely pastry. The service was another highlight of our visit. The barista, who is also the owner, greeted us warmly. As a Francophile, I was absolutely thrilled when he effortlessly switched to fluent French, making me feel even more welcome. His professionalism and friendliness added a personal touch to the experience, making it feel truly special.
The London Fog tea was simply superb - a comforting blend that was prepared perfectly, with just the right balance of tea and creaminess. The lemonade was refreshing and delicious, with a lovely balance of tart and sweet flavors.
The pièce de résistance was, without a doubt, the Strawberry Cream Muffin. It was moist, fluffy, and filled with the delectable flavors of fresh strawberries and cream. The café's other offerings were just as excellent, each one a delightful surprise.
In conclusion, The Lone Wolf Café is a gem in Orillia that is worth visiting. It has quickly become my favorite spot in town, thanks to its excellent offerings, outstanding service, and cozy ambiance. Whether you're a resident or just passing through, this café is a must-visit. It was a wonderful experience and I look forward to...
Read moreLone Wolf had a cozy and moody ambience with its dark and warm wood finishes. They have an outdoor patio that helps open up the space inside with the natural lighting.
I ordered an Iced Matcha Latte with an espresso shot and I substituted the milk for almond milk. The matcha itself was of high quality. It was earthy and nutty which was complemented by the almond milk. The espresso was rich and had citrus notes which I wasn’t really fond of. I tend to like my coffee more with the bold and chocolatey notes.
The service itself was okay. The two baristas took turns helping every customer. It seems like they have regulars visiting often. I liked how the male barista was very friendly to the customers. Seating is pretty limited, and you have to pay for parking if you’re planning on staying here to chill. Price-wise, it’s comparable to a 16oz drink from Starbucks but the quality is way better here at The Lone Wolf. I may have to come back and try other stuff...
