Truly hurts me to write this review because I love the atmosphere, I love the food. But the people are 100% racist. I noticed it a long time ago when I went and they treated me horribly. After that it depended on the day with how the treated me. The last time I went there they basically completely ignored me and I’m not stupid. This older lady, bigger, short white hair, sits down a lot, she’s really my issue. She would go up to all the tables and ask them how their food was and was so friendly.. like so friendly I could see the smile and hear her from my table. Well.. she gave me dirty looks the entire time I was there, I felt so unwelcome. I was getting a coffee refill from her.. I went to give her my mug and she got all mad at me.. I was NOT asking you to pour it in from my hand..I was trying to be nice and give you the mug but she proceeded to say “what, am I going to just spill the coffee all on you?” So rude and then was SOOO kind to all other tables (I was the only person of colour in there) and she just kept giving me dirty looks. So rude, I am so disappointed and I don’t feel welcomed there, AT all. I wish I knew her name.. you are...
Read moreChose this spot based on several reviews from friends that it was a great breakie joint. I couldn't agree more. From the moment I seated myself, (which btw is so nice, I can tell if a table is clean and free to sit in, can't stand waiting in line to have someone lead me to a spot that I likely wouldn't have chosen myself, but I digress) Voula herself served me a coffee within 1 minute (*) and brought me a Toronto SUN to look through while I waited for my buddy. I truly loved that! How did she know that I loved reading an actual paper? Was it my grey hair, likely. Anyway, for a Wednesday at 845am, the place was 80% full, and folks looked like they were enjoying their coffee and meals. I ordered a steak and eggs with the home fries and rye toast and my bud ordered a ham and cheese omelet which he loved. My steak was tender and perfectly cooked medium while my eggs were also a perfect medium over easy. This short order chef knows their stuff! All for a great price as well. Do yourself a favour and stop by what is becoming a east London...
Read moreMy husband and I came here for the first time. We were the only coloured people there. We were also the only people who didn't get a coffee refill. We were served our food and we were not asked if anything was okay. My husband had home fries with his meal and didn't have ketchup at the table. We were waiting for the waitress to come around so we could ask for ketchup; but no waitress came around but she was going around to other tables. She passed by our table twice WITH the coffee and never once came to our table to refill or even check on us. I wasn't even finished my food and she brought the bill to the table. She didn't even ask if we wanted anything more. She literally just put the bill on the table and I wasn't even remotely close to be finished eating. It felt like she was rushing us to get out. It wasn't even busy but other people were getting served. Everyone was just staring at us and it was VERY uncomfortable. Good job Voula's Diner staff, you win, will definitely not...
