We are 5 neat guys who have a little breakfast club, it is like a book club but for breakfasts. We would recommend Johnny's in Oshawa. The parking was sufficient. Location is good for us as we live in different directions- close to the highway. the decor is dated but that is okay with us it has a retro feel, the tables could have been just a touch larger but not a big issues. The place was very clean We recommend spending the extra dollar for 2nd level breakfast this upgrades you to get 2 extra pieces of meat and 1 more egg. The Weekend prices are good and they have very good M-F Special. We all Appreciated the simple well layout menu. The food was good. it was Hot and fresh. There was a wait for the food- in our case that was fine we not in a rush but maybe not the place to go to before work if you in a hurry. 1 of members had to wait a little extra longer for his- that is to be noted. It okay to wait for food but the variance between the last person getting there was a little on the longer side. The service was excellent- we noted our coffee were refilled plenty of time with out have to ask- not all eateries do this well, It is very important. Our Recommendation to Johnny's is improve the Home fries and put Rye on the choice for toast selection. Thank you Johnny over all we enjoyed our breakfast and will return.

I'll start with two prefaces, one I really wanted to like this place based on the reviews and two they took a call order before taking mine even though I was there first. Everyone was really nice and kind. I ordered the meatloaf special with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, veggies and a warm bun with coffee. I recieved the dish after a bit of a wait. It was presented well and looked good. But the meatloaf was cold in the center so I had to ask them to warm it up. The waitress said she'll "get them to microwave it again". It came back hot, which is good. The overall flavor was not the best, the gravy had a off taste, the meatloaf was okay and the mashed potatoes were bland. The veggies were definitely frozen and not cooked well, they were not soft at all and were also bland. The bun was a simple warm bun served with butter, it was good. The coffee was ok but my refill instead of warming it back up made it a little cooler. Price wise at just under $11 for the meatloaf it was good value, but I'd pay more for better food. The $3 coffee was ok. So overall the food was not very good, but the people were lovely and the diner has charm. Maybe this was an off night but I don't think I'll go back. Too many other diners in Oshawa that have really good food.

We were looking for a cheap breakfast special in the Oshawa area. So I Googled cheap breakfast specials and stumbled across this place. The restaurant opened at 9am. We were one of the first customers to come in. There was a strong scent of cigarette smoke in the restaurant. Not a great start. We ordered the breakfast special 3 eggs with homefries and texas toast for $3.99. If you want to add meat, you will need to ante up another $4.50 for 4 strips of bacon, ham, or 2 oven baked sausages. $5.50 for peameal bacon. From a value perspective, the breakfast special is a killer deal if you don't add meat. We got the bacon and sausage for our upgrades. The coffee is $3 with free refills. The coffee was freshly brewed and not watered down. The eggs were cooked perfectly, mine sunny side up, and wife had overeasy. The home fries were crispy and not oily. The ketchup looked kind of old as the colour was dark red. The bacon strips were gigantic and crispy. The sausages were a bit overcooked and dry. I would probably stick with the bacon next time. Overall, if you are looking for a cheap breakfast special, then you should definitely give them a try. Just know that once you upgrade and add a coffee you're looking at $15 per person with tax and tip.

Food is great, atmosphere is great, owner is great, service could be nicer in the morning. After my hairdresser paid for me and my partner to have a date here, I've been bringing in friends and family every couple weeks to enjoy the food and Johnny's. We had one woman as our waitress the first couple times, I believe she's the owner and she's wonderful. Kind and appropriately energetic. However, the last 2 times I've come in, we've gotten a woman named Bonnie. She's polite to an extent. Sometimes it seems like she doesn't want to be there and today she wasnt very nice. I ordered pancakes beside my breakfast and she specified it would be 4.75. I asked for chocolate chip pancakes, nothing was said. I get the bill, it says 5.75. I know that's just a dollar extra, but I ask about it cause that's not what was advertised. She points to the number 3, which shows 2 chocolate chip pancakes for 14.25, still not what was advertised. No where does it say chocolate costs extra or that it's 5.75. I'm not upset about the price, I'm upset that it wasn't clearly advertised. She refused to budge so I just paid it but I felt tricked. The other woman definitely would've been clear and communicate, Bonnie just didn't seem to care. It's disappointing. I hope someone has a talk with her. Other than that, this place has been great to me and my friends. Never have I been disappointed by the food. Just make sure you ask the right questions if you don't want your bill to be raised like mine was.

Edit: Apparently the woman I complained about views this as a "nasty review" and they no longer serve chocolate chip pancakes?? This review wasn't about the pancakes, the pancakes were great. The one criticism in this 4 star review was about HER behavior. That's what needs to change, not the menu?? I just wanted prices to be...

Sad that I have to post this review as I actually use to really like the place. Yet it has become really out dated and over priced. Not only that.. they seem to not have as much pride in the food or service anymore. We were seated in a booth where the blinds didn't work and so caused the sun to be blinding at our table.. yet we worked with it eager to get some bfast. We ordered our food and waited 30mins before watching them serve the table that walked in AFTER us their food first. So once I asked where our food was.. she began to say she dosnt know it's not her fault. When I ordered.. I specifically asked for well done crispy bacon with my 3 egg bacon n egg bfast that took over 30 mins to get to the table. With undercooked bacon. No toast and my poutine was fit for a 2 year old with maybe a whole 10 fries on the mini plate. She than told me to give her back the bacon on a plate she provided. We said forget it n decided to leave. The lady who served us was another issue. Although she seems to be a nice lady because I have dined there before.. . Her hygiene for a restaurant food server is a big hard to be nice about. Her fingers r yellow and she is sweating like crazy. Sweat sweat sweat it's gross. It's literally dripping off of her. They need to turn the ac up for her as the place is stifling and she's the only waitress probably doing everything. Still... it was not a nice experience and I will never go back. Bye bye Johnny's. We had some good times. FYI.. Wimpys Is up the road with better food and customer service....

Upon walking in, the ambience seemed like a funeral was being held. Quiet, and only about 5 or 6 customers at the peak of breakfast time. When the waitress approached me, I had to initiate conversation. She wasn’t rude, just not friendly in the least. She took my order, but the food was brought out by another waitress who said she was helping out on her day off. There were only 5 or so customers, so I’m unsure of the need to be “helping out”, but she was actually nice.

The food was decent, however what they call “home fries” are not prepared on a flat grill, but actually deep fried dollar chip potatoes. Didn’t like them at all. Never saw the original waitress again, nor the other one for that matter.

The worst part was no one came by to offer a refill of my coffee. That’s the first breakfast place I’ve been to in my life, EVER, where you’re not approached for a refill of your coffee. I didn’t get a bill either, so after waiting, I approached the counter to pay.

The original waitress was there. I asked if it’s not customary to ask customers if they want refills of their coffee. She said it was….but, didn’t apologize for not offering it to me, nor for not even coming by to check on whether I was satisfied with my food, if I wanted anything to drink, or if anything was missing. Not a great service experience at all.

My advice is to order the take out, because the food is decent…at least then you won’t have to endure the poor service. She definitely needs...
