One thing with West Indian people is they always think they’re better than the next. All these people here with negative reviews are prime examples of how those people act.
I’ve lived in Oshawa for 7 years. First year we went to a “West Indian” shop that had more African supplies than West Indian.
We travelled to Scarborough all the time to get certain items; items you can only find in Scarborough.
7 years later as my family and I were driving, my wife caught this store out the side of her eye.
The owner, was in the process of closing and when my family walked in. He had a smile on his face and didn’t even say anything rude to us. We walked around, found some things we can’t find anywhere else in Oshawa and then started inquiring about products they stock as we were quite surprised. Found our usual masala, pepper sauce, Norman Sue bread and even the other one-two things you only find in Scarborough.
As I asked about prices of meats, we asked if he had Gilbaka and he said yes. Although the kitchen was obviously just cleaned and spotless, he offered to get one from the freezer with no hesitation. When my guy put that on the scale and weighed it, my wife and I gave each other the secret look when we both agree on something right away. He instantly turned on the saw, cut it up for us as requested in three separate bags and let my children and wife roam as he did so.
Mind you, all of this was after the closing time of 4:00pm on a Sunday.
All you people out there with bad mind should just go somewhere else and shop because this friendly shop don’t need your bullshit. It’s the real ones that will ensure this place succeeds, and as I told him, I’m definitely going back no matter what. If you don’t like this place, move on and see what service is like at other places. Leave this establishment alone. They are one of the first of its kind in Oshawa and I wish them nothing but success.
Keep doing your thing guys. Great products. Great prices. Top notch service. All I recommend is getting some butter flap and plait bread and I won’t ever have to go back to Charley’s or M and S or Baksh again! Lol
See you soon!
I’m recommending all my people...
Read moreJust bought a can of milk from 2015! and 2 boxes of pinetarts. One had no expiration date and was dry and the other had no price nor expiration date. Got a refund for the milk and first box of pinetarts but was invited to call the supplier for the last one!! and was told that I took off the label because I didn't like the pinetarts!!! how rude!!!
Reply See the problem is we liked the brand of the pinetarts and you assume that we are returning them because we don't like the brand and that we took off the label to get the refund, this is wrong to say that. It is not professional to say that and it's a lack of respect to assume we would do something like that.
If you want to go this way we can say that you knew that the product were expired. Can milk from 2015! how can you miss that? product that was put back on the shelves by mistake? how do we know that it was a mistake and you didn't put it back? But anyways you are responsible for your opinion.
Why would we contact any of your suppliers as you suggested? You are supposed to deal with your supplier and we deal with you, that is how a normal business model works.
Out of 3 products, 2 were expired and 1 had no price nor date and was hard. I would strongly suggest that you check your inventory and don't keep expired item on the shelves.
Good luck with your business, too bad we have to end the relationship for few dollars and your accusation.
btw, since we didn't take off any label it's very odd that you didn't see that product had no tag when you...
Read moreA bitter sweet experience. Here is the bitter: My wife called the store to see if they had certain products. The owner answered, and my wife asked "Do you carry ackees in your store?" The answer was "Yes". So, my wife asked "Do you have enough tins there?", because she wanted to get 6 tins at a very busy time (just before Christmas). Instead of replying "Yes, you don't have to worry", she replied "Are you giving me advice as to how to stock my store? I am the owner, and I have been operating my business for 7 or 8 years!" My wife then said: " No, I am not giving you advice. I just wanted to know that you would have enough supplies so I would be able to get what I need when I come in to get them". Her response was very curt and rude! I don't care what the excuse is. You should never treat a potential customer like that. When we got there it was obvious that she was very busy, cashing customers out, answering questions and answering the phone, all at the same time. Nevertheless, she was quite nice to us when we were checking out (my wife did not identify herself as the person who spoke with her earlier). The store itself was very small and crowded, but well stocked with everything West Indian. Prices were quite high, although the Covid environment may have something to do with that. Speaking of Covid, other than mask wearing, there was no effort to control the number of people in the store at any one time, nor to provide guidance regarding standing at least 6 feet away from...
