I came here for breakfast with my husband, and we both have celiac disease, so eating out can be a bit tricky. I really hate having to bring up my gluten allergy, and the server was very nice, so I almost feel bad writing this review, but I want to be honest for the sake of my fellow gluten-free friends.
When we asked our waitress about whether a menu item was gluten-free, she kindly went to check for us. When she came back, she said the dish contained cornstarch, wheat flour, and a "bunch of other ingredients she couldn’t pronounce". Then, she asked US if that was gluten-free... To which I replied, “No, definitely not.”
I told her that we both have an allergy - celiac disease, and we ordered something else instead. The food arrived, and we took a few bites, but honestly, we just weren’t confident that the server had double-checked the ingredients properly. So, I decided to double-check with her. I was hoping she’d say something like, “Oh yes, I confirmed it with the kitchen.” But, to our surprise, she simply said, “I don’t know.” When I gave her a look that probably screamed, "Wait, what?," she asked if I wanted her to go check again. I was a little stunned, but eventually managed to say, “Uh, yes, please.”
After about 10 minutes, she came back and told us the dish was indeed gluten-free. While we appreciated the effort, we couldn’t shake the nagging feeling from earlier when she seemed uncertain about whether or not some of the ingredients were safe.
At that point, we decided it was best to take the meal home to a friend who doesn’t have a gluten allergy, just to be on the safe side.
We paid our bill, tipped 20%, and left, but not before we were offered a free pancake in exchange for a 5 star review! Lol, no thanks!
I know it can be a hassle as a restaurant to manage food allergies, but trust me—it's a whole lot harder when you’re left wondering whether the staff even understands what an allergy is in the first place. For anyone with celiac, knowing you’re in capable hands is essential. Hopefully, this review can help make things clearer for the next time anyone else with an...
Read moreSo here's goes my review if you take it or not but this what I honestly think of this place since it just opened and has some kinks to work out which is understandable. The restaurant is quaint but the backs on the benches are low and one booth is close to the kitchen and hallway to bathrooms so I saw one couple wanting to be relocated. Menu is big but if the drinks could be on it to give you some options and the Home Run does say two bacon, two sausage and waitress did get confused asked as to which we wanted to order two sausage or two bacon when it comes with both as it states but then mentioned that she was trying to find out if we wanted a substitution. (First week gotta work out the kinks) Food was ok nothing outstanding but good. If your going to stand out from other breakfast places make it really yummy. I know this restaurant is a franchise and maybe this has done well in other areas but here at this location they have some competition. Homefries should be your own (not Cavendish) or maybe season them to a special seasoning of your own. Hollandaise sauce is good but definitely had better. I know with the cost of food and maybe again this is a franchise rule they have to follow but just saying offering fruit with the breakfast not as a side dish. The prices of the omelettes are a little confusing with something like build your own with four ingredients is 50 cents more than the meat one which does have four toppings maybe it is just a convenience thing with the ones that already have the ingredients built into an omelette as apposed to building your own. Overall this restaurant has really good service which I know is important these days as I work in the service industry myself so I get it but the goods you have to offer should be outstanding in order to make it here because people want to pay for the quality these days because it's hard enough to be able to afford to eat out and have it...
Read moreThis is a hard review for me to leave because I wanted to love this place… the staff are friendly, it’s very clean inside, and the prices are pretty comparable to other places. I’ve eaten in the restaurant once, and the food quality was good and the service was excellent. However, this is my third time ordering online for pick-up, and the quality is always quite poor… the chicken and bacon was very dry and chewy, and as you can see from the photo, it’s almost entirely bread, so the entire sandwich was so dry. There were maybe two pieces of tomato and a measly handful of lettuce. The fries that came with it were so dry and there were so few that I just threw them out… such a waste.
I’ve had the waffle before and it was good, but when I pay almost $4 for berries as advertised online and in-person (the last photo fo the beautiful waffle with tons of fruit is from their website), and I get maybe two strawberries cut up into a million pieces and 10 tiny blueberries, I am upset and feel I got robbed of my money.
I originally started coming here because I loved the gluten-free / gluten-friendly options, but if this is the quality I will continue to get when I order take-out, then I will not be ordering from them again. I would also like to suggest they write ´Gluten Free ´ on the bags when you go to pick-up as a courtesy and precaution to those who are gluten-intolerant or celiac.
Lastly, online, there is no option to tip. I always insist on tipping when I get to the store (about 15%), which is quite generous for a pick-up, but I’d recommend you ask to see the food before tipping.
I hope this review can be used as constructive criticism to improve the quality of food given for take-out orders. As for the serving staff, they are always so helpful and lovely, so dining in was a different and more...
