Yesterday we had an amazing experience with my family at this restaurant
Stepping into BBQ Golden Grill felt like an invitation to explore the essence of West African flavors, each dish embodying the heart and soul of the region’s cuisine.
Our journey began with Jollof Rice—a vibrant mountain of rice colored with tomatoes and spices, each bite bursting with smoky warmth and a hint of spice. Beside it lay the Turmeric Basmati Rice with Vegetables—a golden masterpiece that brought a lighter, fragrant touch to the table, with every grain delicately infused with turmeric and dotted with colorful veggies.
In the center of our spread, the Goat with Onions and Peppers took the spotlight. The tender, slow-cooked goat, accented by caramelized onions and bell peppers, was a symphony of savory flavors. It was as though every piece had been lovingly marinated and sautéed to perfection, offering a rich, hearty taste.
For a sweet and savory contrast, we enjoyed golden, crispy Fried Plantains—their caramelized edges adding a sweet, tropical flavor that complemented the meal perfectly. And, of course, a plate of French Fries provided a familiar and comforting crunch, bridging flavors across the platter.
To complete the experience, we savored a hearty African Pepper Soup (seen in the second photo). This flavorful broth made with groundnuts (ubunyobwa), with tender pieces of chicken and chunks of bananas (igitoki), brought warmth and comfort, wrapping up our meal in a cozy embrace.
Our evening at BBQ Golden Grill was a feast for the senses—a fusion of bold, comforting, and vibrant flavors that felt like a celebration of culture, family, and the joy of sharing a meal together. This restaurant is truly a gem, and we left feeling both satisfied and enriched by the...
Read moreGladstone Golden Grill :( :( :( Very poor service and the driver was extremely unprofessional. In addition, the restaurant was not familiar whatsoever with the DoorDash delivery service. The restaurant involved with this DoorDash order is Gladstone Golden Grill located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I placed an order with DoorDash and I only receive the small number of the cans of pop which were part of the order. By the way, my method of payment was Apple Pay which is supported by DoorDash but apparently the restaurant had no idea about Apple Pay. Not only did the restaurant feel they were not responsible at all, but the driver was extremely abusive when he did arrive. Upon contacting the restaurant they indicated that they didn’t really know what they were doing because they had only been using DoorDash for two days! If they are using DoorDash why are they using it if they don’t know it works? I provided some detailed instructions as to where to deliver the food to the restaurant, but unfortunately when the driver arrived I had to go downstairs to pick up my food. I would never ever recommend this restaurant and I will definitely not place an order...
Read moreRating would be worse if not for the food. I went in today I ordered for a pickup, for which I decided to wait because she said it would be ready in 20 minutes. I ended up getting my order 57 minutes later (yes, fifty seven). Worst is, there was no apologies if any sort, and my whole hot chicken ended up not spicy at all when I got home. My $6 plantain and Attiéké side portions were also fairly small, but the meat quantity was decent. I am so disappointed because I am a supporter of small Afro-caribbean restaurants, as part of their community. Worse is the very nice lady (probably the owner) does not really seem to understand that wasting people's time is a huge deal. I will definjtely try other similarp places as this was only my first time in that Afro-caribbean eatery. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Bottom line, go there if you want good food served in ridiculously long timeframe. And if she says it'll take 20 min, she probably means 45-60'. I saw other people complained about that in their reviews, but I didn't take...
