Really really wanted to love this place after following their Instagram for so long and passing by it on a daily. Finally took the time out of the weekend to go in and was more than disappointed. The food looked amazing online but the portions in real life were abysmal and misleading.
Specifically a $22 BLT that only came with half the sandwich - meaning one piece of their bread cut in half. When jokingly asking the server (but also seriously feeling a bit ripped off and misled) if there's another half to the sandwich, we got a condescending and faux-confused response and when voicing our disappointment that we recieved what clearly was half a sandwich, the server gave us a very dismissive reply of "that's how it's served" and just walked away, failing to address the core issue.
For $22 and a dish that is typically on the cheaper side due to its minimal ingredients, it felt really disappointing and misleading that for that price point you're getting half a sandwich.
The decor is cute and the space is bright and inviting. We should have read more of the lower rated reviews before dedicating our time and money to a visit as it appears this isn't an isolated incident. We left feeling ripped off, patronized and dismissed/made to feel...
Read moreThe service was perfect, the food missed the mark. They responded best via email to make changes to our reservation for 6 and didn’t answer phone calls as readily. Everyone walked away feeling they wouldn’t go back. The food explores flavour in interesting ways, but seemed to miss the mark for many of us. We ordered the pasta alla norma, seared scallops, big green salad, shrimp crudo, marinated manchego, fries+aioli, and a couple other dishes. The shrimp crudo was the most surprising1-it is listed as a small dish. It was described by the server as having 3 shrimps cut into 6 pieces total (we received 5). The eggplant in the pasta alla norma was very smokey, which was unexpected. And our seared scallops were smaller in size and on a bed of what seemed to be a corn/mayo mixture rather than the pea bases pictured in reviews. The flavours of the big green salad became overwhelming 2/3 of the way through the dish (heavy dill/pickled flavour that took over). The dishes were presented very well, but we didn’t feel they were worth...
Read moreThis restaurant is a 10. It represents excellence. Not pretentious, it combines the kind of service, cuisine and ambiance that most people look for but rarely find. Since we were a family threesome for dinner, we ordered two appetizers to share and each ordered a different main (they only had three). Each dish had separate component tastes that came together to support and complement each other. For example the eggplant appetizer married a smoky eggplant spear with roasted pepper and a fried, almost crunchy, halloumi in a roasted tomato and sunflower seed sauce. This dish was a favourite. On to the mains, we shared the pork milanese, the corn and pepper pasta, as well as the salmon and roasted potatoes. The pork was a surprise standout but we loved them all. Look, every dish is good. Even the pumpkin sundae was a hit, again, shared. So, my expectations were clearly exceeded. However, I am confident my next visit will be filled with the same neighbourly friendliness and even more flavours and textures I can’t...
