Dairy Queen Grill & Chill — Restaurant in Ottawa

I was just a little disappointed in the quality of service at this Dairy Queen. In my previous experiences I never had an issue with this location until now.

Even though the staff was very helpful there were two things that stood out as red flags that should be fixed immediately so other customers don’t have to go through these difficulties too.

First: I wanted to redeem some coupons on the new Dairy Queen app and the store also had handouts promoting this benefit as well. However the girl had trouble with my coupon code and then I had to wait so she had to get her supervisor to override this. Even the supervisor had some difficulties with entering the coupon code. I still got the deal but they had to do it via manual override which at other restaurants this is not the typical process.

I thought, as Dairy Queen now encourages people to redeem coupons through the phone app, the staff should be thoroughly trained and it shouldn’t take 5 mins to process a coupon. I’ve been to other places and it should take them like two seconds to process the coupon not 5 mins. They were kind but they still had to override me getting a free soft drink (that was my coupon in question) but the staff should already know how to apply this coupon and be trained in this if they are going to promote this benefit to the customers.

The second thing was the employee was very kind in serving me the food however she neglected to get me the free drink that the coupon was for. I had to call and wait for several minutes at the cash waiting for someone to respond. No other customer should have to go through that. I’m just saying there was lack of professionalism here and I apologize but the service was just a little on the disappointing side. The food however was delicious so No complaints but the staff should be well trained on how to apply coupons instead of waiting for a supervisor to apply manual overrides. What if the supervisor wasn’t there to assist? Then what? I lost two coupon deals because of this and they should also be aware that the coupon on the app has a built in 15 min timer but they never knew of this which was not good at all.

Just saying if they are going to promote the mobile app then they have to be trained on how to apply the code properly and as for including the drink that I was supposed to get for free, one should just get the drink automatically with the order itself like in the same tray instead of waiting to get their attention for several mins.

I will rate 2.5 out of 5 to be fair. The tastiness of the food and friendly staff made up for the lack of professionalism and service.

Hope someone’s paying close attention so that other customers don’t have to go through the same hassle of redeeming...

I had such a great experience at Dairy Queen recently, and I absolutely have to give a huge shout-out to two amazing team members: Lisa and Jenish. From the moment I walked in, they made me feel welcome, appreciated, and genuinely cared for—not something you get everywhere these days!

First, let me talk about Lisa. She was so warm and friendly from the second I approached the counter. Her smile was contagious, and you could tell right away that she enjoys her job and takes pride in giving excellent service. She was patient and attentive while I asked questions about the menu, and she didn’t rush me even though it was a bit busy. She offered helpful suggestions with a cheerful attitude and really made the experience feel personal. I ended up trying a Blizzard flavor I’d never had before, and I loved it—her recommendation was spot-on! Lisa just has that natural kindness that makes people feel seen and valued.

Now, Jenish was just as impressive. He was working hard behind the scenes, but I could still see how focused and dedicated he was. When my order was ready, he made sure everything looked perfect—like, genuinely took a moment to double-check it before handing it over, which shows so much care. The presentation was great, and you could tell he puts effort into his work, even if it’s a quick-service setting. I also saw him helping another staff member who looked new, and he was being so patient and supportive. It’s not every day that you see someone take the time to be both efficient and encouraging at work.

Together, Lisa and Jenish make such a great team. You can tell they have strong communication and a shared commitment to making customers happy. They helped keep things running smoothly and positively, even during a busier time, and that says a lot about their professionalism and character.

I truly left Dairy Queen feeling uplifted by their kindness and great service. It’s rare to find staff who go above and beyond in both friendliness and attention to detail, but Lisa and Jenish definitely do. They made my day, and I hope they know just how appreciated they are. Thank you to Jay and Lisa for taking care of my cake orders for my birthday this year. I ordered one oreo and one cookie dough cake and they went above and beyond for it. I've attached a few photos to show Lisa's talent. If you want to order a DQ cake, I recommend ordering from this location because of Lisa. I have never met someone as passionate about her cakes as her, and she really enjoys her job.

Many people do not realize these DQ cakes are actually made on site, and your local staff serving you your Blizzards are making them in between orders. They are also making the dilly bars, DQ sandwiches, and buster bars you have come to know and love as well.

Jay has recently taken over this DQ last year and he's doing such a good job with his staff. He loves all his guests and enjoys helping them make memories with their friends and family. He is honoured to be part of anybody's celebration and is a true joy to interact with personally.

You will find that his staff is also the same. They enjoy serving everyone who comes in, and are delighted to see families come in with their children and take photos of their memories at DQ. They also enjoy being a safe place for people to come hang out with with their friends while enjoying dessert or even a meal together.
