My wife and I spent 4 nights at the Lord Elgin and ended up spending a crazy amount of time and money at Grill 41. And it was worth it. We had breakfast here every day of our stay. The menu options are great, but I recommend the buffet. It has a little of everything. Mostly the service and atmosphere is what drew us. The food is good, but the feel there is like, we felt like we belonged. The morning staff, especially Cristina, were so nice. One waiter said we could stay for four hours if we wanted, get the most out of the buffet. haha Lunch offered another relaxed, delicious experience. I got the Buddha Bowl, a healthy, vegetarian option I enjoyed a lot. For dinner we tried the skillet nachos. We shared one and there was still some wasted, so plentiful portions. Very good as well. And finally in the evening we got drinks from Sumi. The cucumber mule was especially nice and refreshing. Just loved this place.

My mom and I are visiting Ottawa for a few days, and staying in the Lord Elgin for the first time. She has severe allergies so when she sees somewhere she feels is safe - we go. She saw a special Thanksgiving menu at this restaurant so we decided to go. Well from the first minute, we knew it would be an amazing experience. The restaurant was full so we got to sit in the private dining room with only one other table. Then Owe met our waitress Daphnee who was absolutely amazing - so friendly and offered amazing suggestions. She even asked our names and used them - making it a very personal experience! The kitchen paid close attention for no cross contamination with allergens for mom. The entire meal and experience was a 10/10!

Wow! Incredible food! Very attentive waiter. SHAHED IS THE MAN! I looked at all the reviews I was wondering how in the hell this place only had 3.6 stars, then I looked at it, every single negative review was from 4 or 5 years ago when they had different management. Don't let this fool you, was a incredible experience with my mother and best friend. Come here you won't regret it. I'm a very respected Local Guide, I won't steer you wrong. Delicious food, incredible service and reasonable prices. What more could you want downtown Ottawa at one of the oldest and most prestigious hotels in the city? Come now, I'm telling you. 🔥

Consistently one of the worst experiences in service I've ever had. The staff are incredibly rude and aggressive. Unfortunately for me this is the site that hosts the late night jam sessions for the Ottawa Jazz Festival that I like to attend, and I go every night... I felt that the way I've been treated is extremely short sighted in that I'll be spending money here throughout the course of the week. Oftentimes I'll arrive prior to my friends and will get a table for a small group of 4. I've offered to make a small donation ($20) in order to hold the table as my friends took about 15mins extra mins to arrive. The staff was badgering me about how rude I was being and that they had a huge line and couldn't hold the table for me. They also said I had to order a drink. I said that I was happy to buy a drink for someone else, or make a donation, but didn't drink myself. My server was adamant that I had to buy something. So I bought a coke which melted on the table throughout the course of the night. I haven't even gotten to the food yet which is mediocre at best and EXTREMELY over priced for the quality.

Short story long, there is definitely a managerial issue here. If servers are acting this way it's because they have no guidance and don't know any better. This place can get really busy and from what I can see from the number of tables, they're probably running the ship a little short staffed, which I'm sure is stressful for the servers.

The late night jams are such a staple of the Ottawa jazz fest. It's unfortunate that the magic that happens there needs to be somewhat overshadowed by rude and aggressive staff. Hopeful that someone is going effect some meaningful...

I went here for lunch and was not impressed. First, we were sitting there for a while, then realized that no one was coming around on the patio to take our order, I had to go in and ask the waiter if we can please place our order.

As we wanted something quick and healthy, we both ordered what looked like a delicious salad on the menu. When the salad arrived, it was simply some arugula, what looked like large pieces of brownish maybe peaches (I tasted it, and still could not tell), a few whole almonds, and two little pieces of cranberries, and some kind of oily salad dressing. It was in a large bowl and did not look appetizing. We asked for utensils and more salad dressing as the entire thing was too dry. It lacked seasoning, flavour or any kind of creativity (food should also be visually appealing, particularly when one is paying for it). While I do not like to waste food, I could not eat mine (I tried), it tasted too much like eating grass (while I have not ever done so, I posit that must be what it would taste like). As we were leaving, I was looking for someone to pack it up for me, as I was going to take it home and spruce it up. However, no one was to be found and we did not have time to go in to find someone. Therefore $18 (plus tax) wasted. I generally do not like to write such posts, but am doing so in hope that improvements will be made (good customer service is so essential). I called to give the manager some constructive feedback, based on my experience however, she has not yet returned my call. Perhaps salads are not their specialty. Servers are nice, but it takes them a while to come and...

My wife and i attended a brunch as part of a reservation for a wedding brunch. We were a group of about 32 people, so knew things would be slower. However, we did not anticipate how slow. We waited almost an hour and twenty minutes to get our food. By the time we were served, members of our group had already eaten, paid, and left. The restaurant only assigned 1 server to our group of 32.

Orders from the menu were routinely wrong or missing items, or given to the wrong person. The buffet ran out of most of the food (for those who chose it). A decaf, regular coffee, and hot water dispenser were placed in the room with us, but once it ran out, there were no refills, the dispenser was simply removed. We were then all charged 5 dollars for coffee despite it being empty.

I do feel for the waiter as he was overwhelmed, but there was no apologies for the wrong orders or lack of items. Since we were a large group, we were charged a gratuity. I'd normally be fine with this, but the service and wait time was so bad, I took issue with it.

The food was fine. My wife ordered the French toast and I got the breakfast poutine. The poutine was surprisingly filling, though the wedge fries were a little strange to use (my own opinion and the menu said it was wedge fries). The French toast was good, nothing special, but...
