Markie's Montreal Smoked Meat — Restaurant in Ottawa

Food was absolutely delicious. I'd like to see a little more vinegar side dishes included in the items vs having to order as a plus but all in all I was happy with the food.

Service was what you'd expect in a fast food smokehouse. They weren't as quick as I'd like to take our orders and weren't really helpful in deciding what to choose stating "everything is good" when asked what would they recommend. Cashier was polite and did offer a nice smile while interacting with.

Atmosphere was pretty mediocre. It's not a real big place only having a hand full of tables and seats. My biggest issue was the place was empty so the only thing being heard were the employees talking about their plans after work with eachother. Nothing about the atmosphere really felt like it added to the experience.

I'd most likely return when I'm craving smoke meat but would simply take it to go or order it from a food...

As a former Montrealer I miss Montreal smoked meat living in Ottawa. We tried markies yesterday. It is better than the butchery or anything else in Ottawa. Compared to Montreal smoked meat it is a touch smokier, a touch less salty, and much less peppery. The bread in the sandwich was not fresh but it was right after stat holidays so we will try again. The main difference is that Montreal sandwiches warm the bread so that the meat and the soft warm bread all hold together perfectly. Markies sandwich with the somewhat dry and somewhat cold bread and not quite enough mustard makes it feel like a different sandwich. A- which is still really great for Ottawa. We brought some sliced smoked meat home and it is excellent cold. Coleslaw is Mayo based which is delicious but a little different. Pickles are putters. If only they had Cotts...

Refused to reimburse order mistake using original method of payment (illegal). Full story: Ordered in advance over $110 for family takeout after a family member got out of hospital, order was not ready for pick-up 10-15 mins after the scheduled time and yet the counter continued to serve new customers coming in off the street while we waited. After leaving with the food, we realized they forgot to provide any of the bread needed to make the sandwiches. When we called back they would first only offer in store credit or to deliver the bread in about an hour. When we insisted for a credit card refund (full or partial) they said they would not and only would send an interac e-transfer for 25% of the order.
