I visited here on August 4th 2024 with my sister. We heard good things about this place on TikTok and instagram so we decided to visit here for brunch. First impressions of the building were not so great. The outside of the building looked “ghetto” and it looked like we just pulled up to “Skid Row”. I half expected to see glass all over the ground. I know that “it’s what’s on the inside that counts” is something to keep in mind but not when your restaurant looks like a “trap house”. Also parking our car beside disgusting dumpsters was not helping our first inmpressions either. Also no parking lines? How hard is it call a contractor or the city to come fix that for you? It’ll really spruce up the outside so it looks more professional and less homeless encampment.
The inside of the restaurant was very clean and everything was well organized. I was honestly shocked considering the outside of the building. It was immaculate and very obvious that they take cleaning duties seriously. The decor is a more modern take and can be seen as plain to some but it suits the restaurant in my opinion.
I ordered a double chocolate crepe while my sister ordered a waffle and smoothie. I noticed right away that they only had Red Bulls and water in their cooler for drinks. It’s not too big of a deal but other restaurants I’ve visited had small drinks in stock in case you are someone who cannot stomach a large drink. I rather skip the heart palpitations from the energy drinks thank you very much. However, they did have water in a unsanitary open for everyone to help themselves water cooler so there’s that. You should probably leave that behind the counter next time.
The pricing of the food is a little pricier than other places I’ve been. I heard the food was good so I figured I’d treat myself. Pricing isn’t a problem for me. If your food is good then I will happily spend a little extra to treat myself. If your food is trash then I expect you to pay me for any emotional damages you might have caused.
When I got the crepe the presentation of the food was spectacular. It was definitely photo worthy (I never really take photos of food because the only things I take of food are bites). I was a little disappointed that there was more banana than chocolate in my crepe. For the name double chocolate, there wasn’t an acceptable amount of chocolate on the crepe. They should rename it “the banana crepe”.
I tasted the crepe and I was honestly surprised. The crepe was mediocre at best. My crepe was over cooked so it was really dry and not moist at all. Even the ice cream didn’t help. For 15 dollars I thought I at least deserved to have my crepe cooked properly. This was a big disappointment to say the least. I wouldn’t even that crepe to a dog.
My sister’s waffle was made well and it looked delicious and she said it tasted delicious. Her waffle looked consistently cooked so I assume this is a restaurant not having good quality control issue. The food at a restaurant should always be consistent. Whether it’s consistently good or consistently crap.
My sister was really upset that my food turned out the way it did so the rest of the visit was spent in a low mood. I couldn’t even finished my crepe because it was like eating wet cardboard.
After departing we both decided that it would be best to avoid taking suggestion from social media in the future. Some places get overhyped and it feels like a slap to the face when you get a bad experience when everyone else has a good one. For a first time visit I don’t think I could get myself to come back in good conscience.
I give my experience a rating of 2/5. I don’t usually give reviews even if my experience is good or bad but after telling people what happened I was encouraged to leave a detailed review so they can always come back to it and have a good laugh about it. So will I.
Edit: My main issue with my crepe was that it was over cooked. The bottom was dark brown. The banana issue was my own fault so I never mentioned it, I just picked them off. Also others have mentioned the...
Read moreWe had a horrible experience. Food was alright, instagrammable but not as delicious as expected. Waffles were chewy. Ottawa has several other places way better than this.
The staff and the owner both were very rude. We were feeding our 2 kids (under 2 years old) outside food (Greek vegetarian platter, rice and vegetables basically). The staff came up to tell us that no outside food is allowed. We told them that we're not eating, it's only for the kids. He kept on arguing and asked us to order something for them from their menu! Also, told us that we can talk to the owner when he comes. Note, we had ordered separate items for ourselves before we started feeding kids. We tried to tell the owner before leaving that this incident took place before his arrival so that they can atleast allow kids to eat outside food. The owner kept on arguing, no apologies whatsoever. Extremely rude, unprofessional, insensible, inconsiderate management.
Neither the food nor the service is worth it. Has a couple nice instagrammable...
Read moreI finally got the chance to visit this brand new restaurant. Ali and his family own My Choc-o-la, a crepe, waffle and juice restaurant which has been open for a month and a half. Ali mentioned he is still experimenting with his menu and trying new items. He has paninis, Sweet crepes and waffles and juices, smoothies and milkshakes. I just want to take a moment to express how mesmerizing his mural is. Ali said a good friend of his designed it, and it looks amazing! Great work! As for the food, I decided to try the turkey and avocado panini, the kinder crepe, and the Avocado special cocktail. As i watched him cut open the avocado, I knew all the ingredients were fresh. The Family loved every bite and I enjoyed the creamy/rich cocktail smoothie and the delicious panini. We can't wait to try other items on the menu! This is a must try! #supportlocal...
