New Hong Kong — Restaurant in Ottawa

This is the ABSOLUTE WORST customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life. I would never recommend anyone order food from this restaurant. It is not fit for human consumption. My boyfriend and I ordered Chinese food from here, including two orders of chicken fried rice. He found a large size chicken bone in his rice and shrugged it off, choosing not to risk eating it and threw it out instead. When I went to eat my rice, I also found a bone, roughly 2-3 inches long, in my rice, and we decided that enough was enough, and we wanted our money back. A young girl spoke to us over the phone when we called in to complain about the unsafe rice, and she said that if we came in to return the rice they would refund our order. When we did come in, however, the young girl was not present and instead there was only a middle aged woman at the desk and a middle aged man in the kitchen, neither of whom understood or spoke English very well. The woman became aggressive immediately as we explained the situation, yelling loudly at us in different languages, threatening to call the police, even though we were acting perflectly calm, and refusing to refund our order. At one point this woman attempted to seize our receipt, without having given us any refund, and even tried to snatch the rice with the chicken bone in it out of my hands. My mother took pictures during the encounter and even got a picture of the middle aged woman snatching the chicken bone out of the rice, attempting to hide the evidence. She kept insisting that she would not refund us, and would keep pretending to call the police. We know that she was pretending to do so because she kept speaking Chinese into the phone and having a lengthy Chinese conversation with this supposed policeman. Needless to say, no police arrived. My mother, realizing that she could not properly comprehend English, wrote her a note explaining the situation and politely suggesting that she have her daughter, the one who seemed to speak English on the phone, help her to read it. The woman then proceeded to rip up the note whilst laughing in my mother's face and throwing the scraps of paper all over the place. At this point, we decided to leave, and returned to the car. When we were inside the car, the middle aged woman and man followed us outside the restaurant and began circling the automobile, as though they wanted to write down our license plate. Once they cleared away from the car, we left. I would like to re-iterate that even though we were irritable with this woman and insisted upon a refund, we did not in any way pose a threat to her or her establishment. Her behavior regarding us was completely uncalled for. I would never recommend anyone eat from this restaurant. Not only is the food rather expensive for the quality, but it is unsafe for eating and the people who run the place are rude...

I wouldn't even give this place one star if it was an option. We started by placing our order, we then said it was for delivery. We then gave them our address and there's a HUGE language barrier with the woman who I learned was the owner. I spelled it out for her and she proceeded to get mad and yell because she couldn't understand. That should of been our first clue to cancel the order. When the food arrived I paid for it and put it on the bench. My wife then grabbed the bag from the top and bottom since they managed to cram everything into one bag barely being able to staple it. She barely took one step and the bottom of the bag let go due to something leaking which was the boiling hot soup who also covered my wife's leg and the ceramic tiled floor. Which being wet she also slipped right onto her back also hitting her head and elbow onto the tiles.. food everywhere.. I then called them back to let them know what happened and again the owner started screaming at me saying this wasn't her fault, I'm lying and call the cops it's not her problem, there was nothing wrong with the bag when they delivered it and hung up. Whatever food we could eat that hadn't fell on the floor was absolutely disgusting hard and dry almost like it was reheated over and over again. If u want gross food and horrible customer service this is the place to go!!...

How times have changed since the 3 years I last posted my review. The establishment has gone down the drain. I've been ordering from New H/K for over 15 years with no issues. However this time around something has gone "south". I placed my order online for delivery as usual. The sub total is $60.00. I usually pay on delivery as with tipping. I received an acknowledgment that my order will be delivered within 25 minutes. Forty minutes goes by; no delivery. I placed a call but no answer. Given I live a short distance from there I decided to drive to pick up the order. The woman comes out of the kitchen and asked for my phone# for which I provided. She couldn't find my order even though I told her it was placed online as I showed her the order and acknowledgment from my phone. She got agitated and repeated she never got the order. I left without reordering. The next day I received a text from the take out place saying they had rec'd my order and they had cancelled it with no explanation why and suggested to reorder. Recently I tried to place an order online and noticed they excluded delivery service and only pick up. The prices have skyrocketed not to mention shrinkflation. The portions have shrunk considerably for the price they charge. And the quality of food has dropped. Needless to day I've abandoned...
