I recently discovered this hidden spot that offers an interesting pizza that breaks away from the usual redundant Neapolitan and the local thick greasy Ottawa-style pizza.
For an even better experience, I'd suggest they increase the sauce quantity (doesn't have to be crazy), a key feature of NY/Brooklyn pizzas that would help offset the pizza's saltiness. Additionally, reducing the cheese would allow more of the sauce to peek through, staying true to the NY style I love which features a perfect balance between the crust, sauce, cheese and toppings. While the ingredients like cheese and pepperoni aren't the finest—understandable since it's neither a specialized pizzeria nor a fancy Italian eatery— a few tweaks could really change their pizza game, i think they are about 80% there to a true good NY style. There's a huge potential for any restaurant in Ottawa focusing on authentic NY/Brooklyn-style pizza in Ottawa. I know that void will be filled someday, possibly by this place.
I'm also surprised "New York Style Eatery" or just the word New York aren't incorporated in the branding (I didn't know it was a NY style restaurant until I looked at the menu) and people love New York in general including the food. The menu seems very appealing since I'd love to try some of the NY inspired dishes. Putting New York in the name would significantly appeal to those in search of a piece of New York without the plane ticket. I'm rooting for this little spot, and I'm looking forward to my next order and seeing how this place evolves over time.
Ottawa as a growing city going 1 million people desperately needs a New York style Pizzeria. This is the...
Read moreWent last night with a group of friends and had a great time. Food and service were excellent. Jessica takes care of everything up front and Elvano takes care of the kitchen. It was just the two of them and they are a dynamic duo. Very personable, friendly, and took great care of us.
Pubblico is a very unassuming place both inside and out. Very casual looking with lots of TVs showing various games. They initially had some game audio on but Jessica switched it to music for us. Her playlist was awesome and we were happy watching the games with music for background noise.
The food was great. Our group had the ravioli, bruschetta and fried zucchini to start. The zucchini was too thin to taste much more than the breading but the other two apps were great. For mains the spaghetti bolognese, pizza, shrimp pesto pasta, etc. were all amazing. I had the pizza and the large pizza with a nice thin crust easily feeds two adults. Highly recommend it.
Saturday was half price wine bottles and they don't have much of a selection so I don't think that would be a big draw for me. They have a few beers on draft including Lagunitas IPA 👍 and Jessica makes a killer old fashioned. They actually have a much better bourbon selection than most places in ottawa including Basil Hayden's, buffalo trace, woodford, makers, bulleit, etc.
We are all looking forward...
Read moreCame here with my father to grab a bite. Service was nice, atmosphere was nice. We ordered a couple of burgers. We were both hungry and excited when the burgers came. The meat in the burgers tasted off, but we decided to continue eating since we were hungry. As I was finishing up my burger, I felt a strange sensation in my mouth and on my tongue. I reached in my mouth to find the foreign substance and produced a very gross strand of hair. I instantly lost my appetite. I was debating on whether I should complain to the server, then I saw the cook come out of the kitchen with long hair on their head and a long bushy beard, and no hair net of any kind. I realized that was the most likely source of the hair in my food. I let the server know, and she kind of played dumb like she didn’t see anything even though I showed her the hair. No apologies. We asked to get the bill and leave, and they gave a small discount but still no apology. Rather disappointed in the...
