Stubbe Chocolates — Local services in Ottawa

Ordered and picked up 3 cakes for a combined birthday party yesterday. I have to say it was such a letdown!

Strawberry Tart: Looks very nice until the cutting time. don't know what they used for the filling but it's all liquid! I wish I could use mushy to describe it but it's more watery and runny than that. I wish I had taken a photo! Taste-wise it's like a mix of milk with yogurt and with a ton of sugar. If this is your own "special" version of tart filling and require some sort of special handling such us putting in the freezer as how you would treat ice-cream cake, please, tell the customer! When I was there, there was no mentioning at all.

Truffle Torte: decent, but nothing really stands out. again, loaded with sugar, way too sweet.

Zuger Torte: even with careful handling, the decorative cookies at outside just fell off easily. How do I describe the taste? coarse? artificial flavor? One thing without doubt: SUPER SWEET!!

One star because the customer service over the phone during ordering is very good. Please, the owner of shop, pay attention to your cake quality. Premium price should come with at least decent quality. Unfortunately that was not the...

I thought I'd pick up a treat for my daughter for Easter and so, after dropping her off at work this morning (a Sunday), I paid a visit to Stubbe. I had first checked their opening time online and saw they opened at 10 a.m.(or so I thought). I was a few minutes early and was waiting beside my car when Mr. Stubbe pulled into the parking lot and noticed me waiting by the door. We exchanged greetings, he entered the store. A few movements later a young lady opened the door for me and I entered, remarking that I had arrived a few minutes early. She smiled and replied that they were usually closed on Sundays but on this day (so close to Easter) they were planning on opening at 12 noon. I had clearly misread the info on their web site. Not only did the young lady insist I enter the store to shop (after I offered to come back at noon) but I was served at the counter by Mr. Stubbe himself! I'm sure I don't have to tell you that my chocolate treats were divine but I did want to say that the kind of customer service I received was exceptional. Thank...

The chocolates are good but a very mismanaged place. The girl at the front charged me wrongly twice, each time missing items from my order. Overcharged me both times and I had to go all the way back to get the items they missed. I thought it was the Christmas rush last time, but this time the store was empty and they still couldn’t get my order correct. Huge letdown given all the good reviews here. Unless you have the time and patience to deal with the staff’s incompetence, it’s much better to take your business elsewhere for similar price...
