My husband is a bit of a foodie and particularly loves pizza. We live in southwestern Ontario and have often tried local pizza in the different places we visit, though we don't travel much anymore. We've been to Ottawa a handful of times in the past but didn't know until recently that it is one of those cities that has its own distinctive style of pizza!
This past week we were in town for a few hours only, and decided we'd pick up some Ottawa Style pizza for the road on our way out of town. We did some searching online and found a Reddit post where a local recommended their top three Ottawa Style pizza places, and River Pizza was one of them. After checking the three companies' websites, River was the one we chose to try so we drove out to Orleans for pizza before getting on the road back home, and we were definitely glad we did!
The service was quick and friendly, the price was better than the other ones we looked up, and the pizza was hot, fresh, and delicious! One slice survived the six hour drive home and got reheated the next day. So, we tried the pizza fresh, cold, and reheated, and it was great every time!
As we don't live in the area, we are unlikely to be return customers (or, once-every-few-years customers at best), but we would definitely recommend River Pizza to people who live nearby, or to others passing through like us who want to try a slice of the...
Read moreWhy is the best pizza in Orleans in a gas station (well, attached to one)? Just like College Ward having terrible taste in city councilors, this is just one more little quirk of Ottawa, albeit a good one this time.
This isn't for the wood-fired, pizza stone, pear-and-arugula as toppings crowd (although the last two drizzled with honey are delicious). This is thick, fluffy crust, heavy with cheese and toppings that taste amazing with a few beers as you and your friends unload the last of your boxes off the moving truck. There's a time and a place for fancy pizza, but this isn't it and I think that being in a gas station just underscores how unpretentiously good this pizza is. Roll on home to the family tonight with a couple of pies and a two-liter of pop in your arms and hear the cheers of your...
Read moreSo…. This guy… driver/delivery guy.. I parked in the far side (pic4) you cannot mistake my presence for anywhere else. He walks in, while he knows I’m right behind him, lets the door close when I’m 5 steps behind him.. it’s cold, I’m not a slouch walker.. I find this rude and ignorant. Not a big deal…albeit I’ll make sure people know I’m holding the door open, by purposely walking slowly like cartoons on the moon… sarcastically open the door and wait, (they can be 10-15 steps behind me in a damn snowstorm, and they’ll always feel rushed to hurry and get through the door being held for them….
I find this just terrible and ignorant.. again sometimes it’s the small things they matter the most…. Older gent at cash 5 stars.. this guy lowered my expectations of behavior and atmosphere.. ...
