We are thankful that they have great cooks, fantastic servers and Troy is an added plus as well 😉 Something you learn awfully quick when you move to Parksville from a big city like Edmonton, that the stores and restaurants close very early in comparison! So we were very happy to discover that the Rod & Gun's kitchen closes at 9pm every night, which gives me about 45 minutes or less to get there right after my shift that ends at 8pm and get my food order in asap. lol Thankfully we live pretty close by. 😁 I have had their fish n chips, which I highly recommend and my second favorite is the chicken strips. (I don't usually get the fries, so they replace them with some nice veggies or I get a small salad) My husband likes their Calamari, as well as their mini yorkshires. The other great thing about this place, is that they usually have live music on Friday or Saturday night, or Comedians preforming, or a DJ. Check Facebook or give them a call to find out what event they're hosting next! Thank you R&G. See you next week! 😁

Visiting Parksville for a few days and was told that I should try the Rod & Gun pub. So this evening I went there and had a seat where I could see the entire restaurant and bar and noticed there was only one server that was serving about 14 tables. She was doing an amazing job and I told her so. Everyone was getting their food and drinks and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I ordered the seafood chowder to start and it was delicious. I had eaten in another higher end restaurant the night before and their seafood chowder was so disappointing and cost much more than the chowder at R&G. I also order their Stuffed Yorkshire Sliders. How have I never heard of such a thing until now? These were amazing! So much flavour from the gravy and the sliced roast beef! It was truly a meal one has to try for themselves to realize that this is what’s missing from other pubs’ menus! All in all it was a fantastic experience and I will remember Rod & Gun for the next time I travel up Island!

Saturday night is yorkshire pudding and roast beef night. Good sized portions. Beef could be better. Lots of potatoes. Gravy is awesome, the best ever. Yorkshires are great too, nice and big, where they put the shaved beef (which unfortunately is usually overcooked and seems more like lunch meat used for this purpose). Veggies change each wk This wk was cauliflower, broccoli cooked just right- "to the bite", however the yellow peppers and box choy seemed out of place for a typically English style dinner and do not go well with gravy, more suitable for Asian food than an English proper dinner. But this is my 2nd dinner there. Will go back and am aiming to try a couple of other specialty nights this wk to try some of their other dishes/ specialtys. Dessert was 'turtle cheesecake', a scant portion, but was tasty. Alcohol (7 drinks), dinner (4) , and dessert (2) for 4 people who all had the yorkshire plates was $200, including the tip.

I have been a few times during my little adventure around the island. Once for a sunny outside patio experience for Wed wing night. It was awesome. Great patio, the wings were perfect and the service was spot on.

Second time, another wicked experience. Wanted to catch part of a game, got a great seat with a perfect view of one of the many tv's. Super happy! The food was great and the service was amazing.

Last visit, a busy Saturday night, no big deal. Expected it and was happy to see it so packed. The waitress however, with the club foot, (severe limp) basically wished I wasnt there ordering dinner and drinks. My bad, on a Saturday night and all. A little off putting but not enough to dismay this seasoned BC local. And to be fair, she was super cool and smiley when things mellowed out.

Now for the really bad... I've travelled and eaten in the worst kept Asian restaurants all over Asia. Roddys bathroom on the pub side appears to have be shot up by Guns. It's a very close second to the Asian restaurants which says something. Broken floor tiles, weird stains on the walls. That's more than enough detail. I'm sure it's just an oversight from an otherwise keen manager or owner 😏

I get it, the pub is old as Fk but the bathroom appears to have suffered from one hundred years of neglect. Fk'n disgusting

And don't get me wrong.... I'm a fan. I simply write what I see and experience.

The food and vibe is grand! Highly recommend!

And hilariously, a shocking cover band came on later while I was there. Easily the worst band I've ever heard in my life. Didn't plan on staying so long but it was a Saturday so rolled with it. They called themselves Vinyl Feedback. I so wish I could have pushed them back to when vinyl came out... gawd aweful

Overall a small town...

Terrible service. If there was an option for ZERO stars then that would be too much. Would never go there again even if I were paid to go. We went there to book a table and specified the table we wanted. The waitress took our details on her booking sheet which is a manual system, but when we got the same waitress told us a lie about the computer system not working and therefore there were no tables available. We suggested that we would sit ably another table and move to the one we had booked. She went on to tell us another lie that all the people had just sat down. Looking at the tables many had empty glasses on the table so either they drank really fast or they had been there for a while. So we sat at another table which took them for ages to clean and by this time a table became available and was taken by another couple waiting who had come after us!! Half an hour after our booking time we finally got to order and mentioned to the SAME waitress that we were in a hurry and requested to speed up the food. She said that that is out of her control and could not do anything about it. I guess she has not had much training on waiting tables or she just did not like the look of us! We had negative reviews from family, but we thought we would give them a chance. NEVER AGAIN would I visit this...

Several weeks after my 19th birthday I decided I would go to my first bar in my hometown, why not? it was legal, and I heard good things about The Rod & Gun. I walk in through the door, sat down at the front bar. I asked for a couple shots, and the bartender immediately raised his voice in my face, and told me I am only allowed one shot per twenty minutes. Little did he know, I was drinking way before I walked in, and can handle my tolerance just fine. After that, the second bartender didn't noticed I showed my Identification already, and treated me like I wasn't suppose to be there, and basically interrogated me, when she could have just simply asked to see my ID. Every individual person in that building continuously stared me down to intimidate me into leaving, the second I walked in. These were people that went there everyday and knew everybody that walked in, and they weren't use to seeing anyone young and new come in, so they all joined in to let me know, I wasn't welcomed there, without expressing words. Very Disrespectful. CLEAR sign of age discrimination! Bunch of delusional, middle aged men, claiming their territory, that is public domain!! Thanks for the first...
