The Barking Parrot Bar — Restaurant in Penticton

Well.... where to start? We walked in and the hostes was nice. She greeted us, took us to our table and that is where the positive experience ended.

Summary: The service was not good. The food was worse and they have no regard for their customer. See below for the whole experience.

Observstions: 1: Do not order wine from here. We are just getting over this pandemic and they have a communal cloth that they use to wipe the inside of the wine glass "clean" with. Not a big deal?  None of them used hand sanitizer that I saw and the cloth is just tossed behind the POS when they are done. So if they did come in contact with someone covid positive.... you're welcome! Definitely not clean or sanitized.

2: Do not come here if you're thirsty or in a hurry. The gentleman beside us finished his drink, waited 15 minutes for the server to come and when she didn't he packed his belongings, sat for another 15 minutes and had to stop a random server so he could get his bill which took another 10 minutes. After he asked for his bill she stood a the bar for 5 minutes waiting for 8 drinks to take to her table outside. To her credit though she took a moment to say "Sorry, I'll be right back." As she walked by and left him to wait another 5 minutes.

Our Experience: The server seemed friendly. She came and took our order. We hadn't seen the wine cloth at this time. I say that because we got a wine and a beer. The wine tasted ok but the house lager was flat. Sent it back and got an amazing signature slushi drink. We then ordered the taco soup and some dry ribs. While waiting for the food we had about half of each drink left and the server swings by and asks if we would like another. My other half says "I'm fine." and as I'm opening my mouth to say yes please the server walks away.  Well, 15 minutes later my drink is empty and I'm parched like a pork roast on a spigot. Our food then comes. Looks amazing. Well looks can be deceiving. The soup is a nice orange red colour the coating of dried ick on the whole side of the bowl was white. Its not like it was just a little bit. It was on a solid 1/3rd of the bowl. Needless to say that soup was not eaten. The dry ribs.... they looked good but tasted like they left the ribs out for a few days. They tasted rancid. I thought I was going to vomit. Oh and still no drink. We set the food to the side and 10 minutes later the server comes by and asks so "how are the first few bites?" Hmmmm let me guess?  The fact that the food is relatively untouched and off to the side does not give you a clue? We then outlined our experience with the drinks, the food, her lack of attention and respect for the customer. Her response was surprise, and she seemed offended when we asked for the bill. Started going here for the night life, Quickly realized besides its looks and the fact its in a hotel once it gets dark this quickly becomes the most ghetto & dangerous club in town Drugs, There's people selling them and doing them every single time you go into the washroom. Overcrowded, Crazy line to just get in and they charge you a entry fee. Impossible to get drinks and crazy prices. The lines are worse then Disney land. 50 people squished together all waiting to buy a single drink in the smallest imaginable space, then when you finally finish that drink you need to do it all again. No proper AC, it gets disgustingly hot inside due to the fact they let so many people into such a small space. Security doesnt care about you. They have maybe 4-5 guards for 70-100 people and the guards will not help you if you get jumped which is my next point. This is the most dangerous place to go at night in pentation. Police vist 3-4 times a night cause its so bad. Ive seen people be beating and threatened while i was taking a piss in the washroom. DO NOT BRING YOUR GIRLFRIEND HERE, She will be harassed by every dude and Young wanna be gangster dudes come in groups of 8-10. if you piss them off in any way goodluck leaving the bar without a police escort. Security wont help you and there is one exit.

This is the number 1 spot for low life people, Youll buy a girl a drink and she will turn then walk away. Girls hunt for guys they can milk for the night then they disappear into the crowd. I literally met a girl who goes there every night but never brings anything but the entry fee.

To sum it up, unless you have a gang of friends who can fight or you want drugs I don't recommend going here once...

New experience...(Oct 14/24)

Same lackluster non engaging service still and sadly to report. Food was not too bad and they get away with it all because of the view (I guess). Darn. I have come here for yrs and yrs over time and it saddens me to only give this place I have nice mems at a 2/2.5 stars, darn. Plus...country music ONLY now??? WHY???!

Below was about a yr and so ago...

Today, Apr 2, I celebrated my birthday with a friend during the day 1st and we golfed at St Andrews. Could have stopped in anywhere after golf for lunch but we decided on Barking Parrot after 18 holes played.

They really need more servers here on a Sunday! And more attentive servers! Waited a very long time to just see our server as an introduction being in there and finally ordered after I had to flag anyone down to see us after our patience was running out.

Then I had to ask another guy if our food order was ready as it was another longer than average wait for the food to come out. Sure enough it came out right away after asking on it as our supposed to be server did not just go and check on it! Luckily it was still hot enough when served.

Then she did not come and ask if all was ok! Is this NOT the very least a server can do??? The steak sandwich was good but what if it weren't??? Maybe I wanted another water or one more beer to make it two max???

This was not that enjoyable today and even less so having to write a negative on it.
