Beer Store 4701 — Restaurant in Peterborough

For the most part, I've always had a good experience in the store and with all the employees. This is the first time I've ever had any problem.. today I went to buy my usual brand of beer, and the price went up a little bit. So I ran to grab a bit more change for the difference.. I had enough to pay for it originally, but I was trying to avoid more change and just get a bill back ; so that's why I ran to my vehicle to grab more ( took me maybe 20 seconds tops, as I literally ran!) Came back, handed the other quarter over, and the lady just closes the til and says " bye". So I say, "umm, you still owe me $5, I gave you a $20 bill, $10 bill , a loonies and 2 quarters" the total for my beer was $26.50, and I gave her $31.50 so that I could get a $5 bill back with no change. She told me I didn't and I insisted that indeed I did. Like why would I lie? You literally just had the money I gave you in your hands???! Then with a little huff and puff of annoyance, she reluctantly handed me a $5 while saying " oohhhkay" tried to explain that I come to this location often and that I wouldn't lie and so on. And all she does it wave me off saying " bye" with a very condescending attitude. I know it's kinda petty, but it rubbed me the wrong way. I've been a loyal customer for years there and I'm always polite and courteous. Sorry that I wasn't lying and didn't feel like paying an extra $5.00. I hope she goes and checks the cameras and realizes she made a mistake and was in the wrong. Ill still shop there, but ill be doing my best to avoid her.. Everyone else is great, and she used to be. Why would any employee question a reasonable amount of can returns? The poor guy was just returning a bag of empties and the employee said" that doesn't seem like that many cans to me"....how embarrassing for the customer....I felt so sorry for him. He offered to dump them on the floor and recount if she wanted him to. The cans were crushed and 150 will easily fit in a large clear bag. That employee was totally out of line in my opinion and likely I will never return a bag of empties to this store. Kudos to the customer for...

Great store and great staff, especially now as essential workers during this pandemic! Unfortunately, there were a couple if extremely racists and ignorant people there today giving the security staff a hard time who were trying to do their job and do it it with certain restrictions to keep us all safe!
