Driving from Madoc, Ontario - the halfway point from Ottawa to Toronto on Hwy7. BTW the town is so nice, it's some place you should drop into as they have so many hidden gems. Anyways, I digress - as I usually do, you will pass through Peterborough (yes named after me...hehehe) and then you will magically here the song... Bobcaygeon by the Tragically Hip.
Bobcaygeon is a bit north of Peterborough but the Brewery is right in town! And though the Song has a few interpretations, the word BREW does not! I'm thirsty for the Amber Nectars of the Gods... let me at'em! LOL!
This is the second craft/microbrew in the same number of days for the me on my small town getaway.
When you enter this place, you're going to be basically dropped into a warehouse brewing operations. No cool sitting area but the murals are nice. The place is industrial but hey... we came for the BREWS not the artsy decor. Let's leave that for the fancy smancy wine peeps! Ha!
Simple bench seatings to the left. A cash area to the front of you where taps line the wall under a blackboard. Menu is simple... here are the brews ORDER UP and DRINK!
I did a flight of 4 to try their crafts. Overall the brews were... O...K..., I wouldn't jump up and down and cry that I found my one and only Brew Luv! See what I did there!?! :D
The place was pretty empty except for some industry peeps at another table. The one guy in the shop was pretty low key and really didn't get into conversation about their brew - would have loved more info and history of the place.
Everyone is different and each of us have different prefs. I know one thing, I did not like the Heavy Lies the Crown ... OMG ... reminds me of the Up'yer'Kilt brew I had decades ago. Must be bad for me to still remember it! Think that through. Anyway, in true Canadian sense where we leave no beer behind, I did drink it! Thank the lord it was a flight and not a pint!!!
As I left, the brewery... the theme song of The Littlest Hobo hums through my mind as I hit the road ......
Read moreBobcaygeon Brewing Co., located in Peterborough is a delightful space to play boardgames (Catan, anyone?), and socialize. As for its beer, that is unparalleled!
The Belgian White, Firefly, would be an ideal accompaniment to Indian or spicy food. It is, quite astonishingly, a savoury beer pretending to be a humble wheat beer.
Breathing in the heady mango-grapefruit fragrance of the Northern Lights IPA is almost enough, so delicious is the combination. Plunging into it, one savours balance and poise despite an abundance of tropical fruits that, in less skilled hands, would've made this a fruit juice!
Stargazer: This black rye IPA is wholesome and delicious, with a pleasingly complex rhapsody of roasted coffee beans, oats, and dark chocolate that nudges this into being an exceptional brew that might even be mistaken for a coffee-stout.
The Chocolate Orange Stout, Starry Night is indeed a work of art: The orange smells sweet and inviting, and the chocolate beautifully balances that sweetness, with the lactose giving it a mouthfeel of creamy silk and an orange aftertaste. Wonderful!
The brew master at Bobcaygeon Brewing Co. is clearly a highly skilled artist with a broad and deep range of skills....
Read moreBobcaygeon Brewing Co. is a great place to stop for a pint, with excellent value and a fun atmosphere. Their pricing is extremely competitive—during the week they have great deals, and the weekend we visited, all pints were only five dollars! For craft beer, that’s hard to beat. The selection of beers is also impressive. There’s a wide variety to choose from, so whether you like something light and refreshing or more bold and hoppy, you’ll find something you enjoy. Everything we tried was fresh and well-made, and it made it easy to sample a few different styles. Inside, the space is lively and welcoming, with plenty to do while you enjoy your drinks. From family-friendly games to shuffleboard, there’s a lot to keep everyone entertained. The only thing that could make it even better would be a patio, but it’s still a great setup as is. Service was another highlight. Hannah was our bartender and she was wonderful—friendly, knowledgeable, and quick to make us feel at home. Overall, Bobcaygeon Brewing Co. is well worth a visit: great beer, great prices, and...
