Koryo Korean Barbeque — Restaurant in Pointe-Claire

Sadly I must give a rating of 1 star, Friday march 24, 2022 I was anxious to try the Koryo Korean BBQ. I will begin with each reason why my rating is low. less 1 star: I ordered 2 BBQ shaved beef with potatoes and rice and green beans,($35.00) I was told there where no potatoes and that I would have to choose another side . BUT NOTHING was in the bins. so I said I would wait the 10 min. for the potatoes. Less 2 stars: after 10 min. i spoke to the girl behind the counter , I could not hear her, I told her to speak up 3 times, but this is not the issue, the young man behind the grill was grilling my meat for a good 8 min. this is beef, it should not be overdone, nor was I asked how I wanted my meat cooked when I ordered. Oh BTW my potatoes are still not ready. Less 3 stars: even though my potatoes where still not ready he still went ahead and added all my hot ingredients to the plates - meanwhile my food is getting cold and my potatoes are still not ready. Less 4 stars: my poor overcooked meat is lacking the "Famous BBQ sauce" guess what no sauce, they are literately scrapping the bottom of the bin. this does not look appealing. Less 5 stars: At this point I noticed that no one was in line anymore, looks like they lost customers - I wish I would have left too, but I was in too deep. I asked the 3 young kids if they had an adult supervisor. To be told that he quit 2 weeks ago. WHAT seriously, management is running this establishment with out adult supervision.. On of the kids had the balls to tell me it because minimum wage is low $14.25 per hour is not low for a kid - come on. Every one before you worked at min. wage for a lot less, - My first job I was getting $4.00 ph in a burger stand. Quit complaining do your job , be respectful and try to give a service with a smile. LESS 6 STARS: the potatoes are finally ready. I see from the corner of my eyes that they are petrified little burned potatoes, but as he goes and adds way too much sauce from an oversized dirty bottle, My stomach dropped. THAT was IT, I asked them to be reimbursed. they insisted that I take the food, I did as I was going to give it to a local homeless, I tried the meat, and not only was it tasteless and overcooked , but it was filled with hard stringy cartilage. not even worth giving this away. SO to resume, this place has loads of potential, but there must be supervision, better quality meat (especially for the price), better communication behind the counter. Better train friendly staff. This was my first time trying Koryo at Fairview Pointe-Claire, as I'm originally from Calgary — and I have to say, I’m extremely disappointed.

I ordered the bibimbap, and it was by far the worst version I’ve ever had. The way it was served was completely wrong. The sauce wasn’t the traditional gochujang that’s essential for proper bibimbap — instead, it was some watery hot sauce that completely ruined the dish. The texture was off, and the entire meal ended up dry and unappetizing.

To make things worse, the service was terrible. I waited far too long because the staff had absolutely no communication with each other and kept making mistakes. I could clearly see at least five incorrect orders piling up at the back — and this was visible to customers! On top of that, the staff didn’t even bother to smile or show any basic courtesy.

What shocked me most was when I tried to pay in cash — the cashier told me they had no change. How can a business operate without change for cash payments? That’s completely unacceptable. Overall, this was a terrible experience — both the food and service were awful. I will absolutely not be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and...

Here is my honest review of Koryo.

This place is semi authentic and not the really a Korean style bbq you see in most places.

I got their number 6 which is the pork, beef chicken and 4 sides plate.

The pros:

1. Food here was pretty decent.
2. The meats are cooked okay the portions they give you are a lot. Some might be bland some are full of flavour.
3. The food is seasoned alright for the most part.
4. Good customer service.

The cons:

1. A little pricey for my budget

2. The sides are not Korean so no kimchi they have Macaroni salad, Broccoli like Manchu Wok and others.

3. The Tap on the credit card machine does not work only insert which needs to be fixed.

4. No takeout only dine in because they never asked if you want take out or dine in. And they have trays set up in advance.

All in All Its a decent Koryo Pointe-Claire is a decent restaurant. I hope to try their specialty foods in the future and hope they improve everyday.
