Firstly this review applies to every location around Canada as I’ve been to most of them at least once.
I’m not into supporting chain restaurants but this one is my exception and this is why. As a business consultant who has worked in the foodservice and hospitality sector as a consultant I am always impressed when a company is doing it right and for the right reasons - this being 100% a great customer experience in order to own that customer for life (in marketing it’s seen as lifetime customer value). I’m business in general, companies and restaurants alike spend a lot of money on marketing their brand and services and the smart ones think long-term. The keg does this like no other one I have seen in their market and very few in other especially chains and even privately owned operations. As I always educate CEO’s and teams, it’s not if a company is going to mess-up it’s how the company manages the reaction to their errors that makes the the difference and directly effects the long-term value of a customer. Steaks are generally not always easy to be cooked to perfection and often and especially in non-steakhouses you (I) can’t expect a steak to be cooked to my satisfaction - and not because I’m a foodie and amateur chef. So here why The Keg deserves man kudos. When an error occurs the entire staff are trained to monitor a customers reaction to their served food. They actually watch to make sure its patrons are enjoying their culinary expertise and not just the atmosphere. On many occasions I have experienced moments where my steak was not cooked to my request which is pink inside and Chicago (crispy) on the outside of my steak which is typically a Rib Steak. I have ordered New York strip but have had issues everywhere including The Keg and it’s largely due that this is a less marbled steak and often can be more dry and less juicy. I’ve also had this with my roast beef (which is awesome when cooked right - though their “au jus” does need more flavourful improvement as it’s a little bland). Every time anything should go wrong the server and manager always owns up to their error and will personally make you feel at ease and without worry. They will quickly deal with the remedy and when they return with your new meal, all the trimmings are fresh and hot and the steak (in my example) typically is spot on (unless it’s a 24oz roast beef or New York strip which seems to be a challenge), which is why I stick to the Rib Steak. And then the manager will be at your side asking if you could take a bite in the center to be sure that it’s to your (my) satisfaction and in the event it’s not, which is rare, they will own it again and offer you a replacent without worry of time or meal just to make you happy. And they will expedite it too - how I don’t know but they rapidly (within 5 minutes) will return to the table once again with a fresh new plate of food and see if it’s to your liking. In addition to this they realize the impact this has on other members of the table and generally address them and find a way to compensate the disruption with some form of comps. And they have a rule, that if they get it wrong the second time you don’t pay. Now, PLEASE don’t abuse this as in my case I can tell it’s wrong for me within a couple of bite max, and I’ve not eaten the sides so it’s clear I’m not looking for a free meal deal. For me it’s about eating a great steak an “if” something should go wrong - and rarely ever with a Rib Steak, they have my back and make sure I’m happy. This is why for steak I prefer The Keg hands down and why I’ve been a patron for decades and you should too. Side note, everything they make is delicious from the big fresh and juicy shrimp cocktail to their meaty and tender ribs, to their fish and chicken dishes - all fantastic and also excellent value for the money. Their sides are delicious and portions are generous and with the money, especially their wedge salad with homemade blue cheese dressing. And don’t get me started with their amazing hot fresh baked sour dough bread. Go and...
Read moreYesterday, we had the best Valentine's dinner ever in the Keg Pointe-Claire. The service really made our day so special. We were 4 adults and one kid. We've received a very respectful and professional service from all the crew. We didn't have a reservation, so they tried to put us on a waiting list and informed us that a table will be available after an hour and a half. We had a walk in the fairview while waiting for their text message. And indeed after an hour and a half, we were sitting around the table. First, we've asked for the kid's plate to be served quickly because our niece was so hungry. The waitress was so sweet with her. Then, my sister ordered a steak medium-well, but unfortunately, she got it well-done instead. She told the waitress that she ordered it medium well and if it's possible to have another plate. And here we had the best way of excuse ever. We were so kind with them too and we were not annoyed at all, just my sister wanted to have what she ordered and respectfully asked for it. The manager came and apologized for the misunderstanding and in order not to let my sister wait so long for her steak, he offered her a shrimp appetizer while waiting. The waitress, Maria, kept asking if everything is okay with us, she was so sweet, kind, and we felt as if we were at our grandma's house served with love and respect. She kept saying that we're so nice because we didn't claim or make a problem. My sister had her plate. After finishing our main course and before ordering desserts, we found the waitress coming with two huge ice cream cake for us as a good act of excuse and because we were so nice with her! We were surprised!!!! The manager also was passing every 15 minutes to make sure that everything is okay.
We had never ever received this type of service in our life.. Omg we didn't believe ourselves, the waitress Maria and the manager too were the best!!
We had the best experience ever!!!!!!
Thank...
Read moreWe had a great dinner there on a Friday night. We made reservations as it is always busy on the weekends. We chose from the "Keg Classics", on the menu (which comes with your choice of salad and accompaniment). You have a few choices for meat. We took the prime rib (10 oz), which was cooked to perfection (medium rare). With that I had the iceberg wedge with blue cheese dressing (that was much larger than I thought it would be, from photos I'd seen in the Google reviews), that also had small pieces of tomatoes and bacon bits, and a small container of additional blue cheese dressing on the side), and also the garlic mashed potatoes. The prime rib also came with some mushrooms (that had been cooked in something very flavorable), and some "onion crisps(?)". The meal was preceded by a very large square of some type of bread, that was denser than regular bread, and very good (that came with some flavored butter) that was meant to be cut up and shared. We also ordered, as appetizers, the chicken wings, which were good, and also the mushrooms Neptune (mushroom caps filled, and topped, with a light, whipped, flavorful cream cheese/crab mixture), which was excellent, that came with a smaller personal-size version of the bread you get for the table and some butter. Everything was great. The service couldn't have been better. Our water was always topped-up, and our waitress always checked to see if we needed anything, which was amazing considering how full the place was.The only mistake we made was ordering appetizers as well as the meal. We couldn't finish all of our meal. But they will give you "take-home" boxes, that you fill yourself, if you ask. No complaints whatsoever. Wouldn't...
