We had a reservation for 5 people to celebrate a birthday at 3:00 p.m.,Saturday.The waiter who was a very sweet young man very well groomed, placed us nearest to the door and corridor to the kitchen as possible although I had reserved a window seating.. We caught the cold draughts coming in from the front door . I hope my husband who is 78 today did not catch a chill from this..We had ordered a B-Day chocolate mousse cake in advance one day ago ....no cake arrived. It had never been made. Never mind I thought,it would give everyone a chance to choose their own dessert. We all chose the Table D'Hote ,which seemed quite reasonably priced. The Minestrone soup was tepid but the salad entrée was good.No bread was served with the meal. The main courses were all enjoyed although it was thought far too few vegetables were served, although I was happy with my portion.I had the Veal Piccata and found it quite tasty ,the other guests had the sole and found it tasty as well.My husband had ordered carrot cake which was unavailable,so an alternative was a rather stale cheesecake called Ruby Tuesday, that was far too heavy. I had ordered wine with my meal which the waiter had forgotten and which finally came after a reminder.None of the others at the table drinks alcohol.I had also ordered tea at the end which also did not arrive until AFTER the bill had been put on the table with the waiter hovering to be paid.Very bad form even if his shift was ending and he had to leave. This should not be the patron`s problem.
During my tea ,the waiters opened a door to the outside in the large diningroom and were smoking(which I was sure is illegal to do on the premises)allowing the smoke to come billowing into the restaurant not only stinging my eyes but also causing a very cold draught.
Once the evening guests started to arrive they closed the door.It was almost as if they were trying to get rid of the day reservations to make way for the evening by making us as uncomfortable as possible.
It was a memorable experience for all of the wrong reasons and they need to train their waiters better. They would have to pay us to return. Even though we have been coming to this restaurant for almost 20 years there appears to have been a change which is not for the better and we will not be...

Our family lives in England and Mexico, and we gather in Montreal once a year. Every year we make a point to visit Romano for a meal. It is a highlight for us, and something we all look forward to. Sadly, today is probably our last visit. What a shame.
Today, after being processed due to Covid restrictions, our group was shown to the least appealing table in the outdoor marquee by one of the Romano matrons. It was located in the very back corner, right beside the service entrance and busman's table - complete with spray bottles and dirty rags. Another table, the same size, was available. It was beside the parking lot, therefore had a breeze and was out of the staff's main traffic area. We asked Matron #2 if we could have that table instead. We were told that it was a table for 7, not 5. We looked. The tables were not set up, There were only 7 side plates and 7 napkins on the table we wanted, compared to the less appealing table with 5 napkins and 5 side plates. Matron #2 told us "You will have to WAIT", very loudly and very rudely. So, wait we did. Standing there. When she came back, she was not happy with our decision, and angrily moved 1 chair away, then took the 2 plates/napkins off our table and basically THREW them on the other table, with a loud clang. We were all surprised at the force of her rage, and shocked the plates didn't break. She wanted us to know we had inconvenienced her. She told us accusingly..."We are short staffed!" and huffed off. We asked for and received a wine list and bread from Matron #1, but that was it. We sat there for 20 minutes waiting for service as the 2 ladies bustled back and forth, purposefully ignoring us. Finally, a young man brought us water and took our wine order etc. He also tended to us for the rest of the meal. He was very pleasant and polite and the food was, as usual, excellent. Unfortunately, the attitude of the 2 Matrons coloured our experience in such a negative way, that his tip reflected our disappointment.

Read moreWe ordered at 7 pm was told it would be delivered within 45 mins at the 1 hour 8 pm i called and was put on hold for over 10 minutes, then I Had to hang up to call back to which I was told the food was on the way and should be there momentarily. 25 mins later still no order. We called back and was told that they would check again, to which we asked to speak to the manager. Apperently she was to busy to come to the phone, but the driver was put on the phone saying he would be bringing it over right away. We asked to speak with the manager again. Her name was rosie she finally picked up the phone not once would let us speak and kept repeating that she was in the juice and could not help us at that time and that we could call her back. I'm sorry that's ridiculous restaurant managers always make the time for there clients. It's the customer service industry that is her job. As someone in the industry you are supposed to make the time especially for a client that spends thousands of dollars there a year. Finally the driver showed up another 25 mins , we were not going to pay the bill untill the manager called us back as it was unacceptable that she wouldn't take the time to do something for us. When we opened all the food it was cold ! 25 mins later Rosie the manager called us back asking why we didn't pay for the food, we told her all the food was cold and that she needed to compensate us. She was rude on the phone and said that there was a gouvernement bill and that she couldn't do anything and that someone needed to pay the bill. We would have gladly paid the bill over the phone with a credit card but with the rude comments and not allowing us to even speak we were disgusted. She hung up the phone and told us not to order from there anymore. I'm sorry but this is ridiculous and totally unprofessional for...
