Well,,,,, A good friend of mine had been bragging how big the portions of prime rib was at The Rms Pub!!! So my wife and I decided to check it out! Well when we arrived at the Arms Pub there were about 8 people in front of us just inside the pub waiting to be seated. People were not being tested for about 15 minutes even though there were about 7 4 seat tables and about 20 bar seats, somecright at the bar. Now I know some bars and restaurants won't seat people because they don't have the staff to handle the people. The place is definitely a Pub with mostly older people and many tv's to watch hockey football etc. It was quite loud and when we were able to park in front of the pub we noticed 3 or 4 people smoking outside the place. Well the fellow who seated people was a large older man and not that friendly at least he didn't smile. He started seating people at bar seats when there were like I said about 7, 4 seat tables mmm, he was just saying come with me firmly and you sit here! Well our turn came and this same man said follow me and placed me and my wife in the front bar in front of several tv's. He never asked would you like to sit at a table? Like I said there were about 7 tables still vacant. The bar man immediately asked us if we would like a drinks? I said can we have 2 tall gin and tonic. He very quickly brought us 2 regular sized gin and tonics and I said no we wanted tall drinks . He was very polite and said right I'm sorry and brought us 2 tall gin and tonics with a lime. The he asked what would you like to eat and I said 2 prime ribs. Very quickly we received 2 prime ribs! I would say less than 10 minutes. I was impressed by the speed at which the food arrived! Now as soon as we sat down I could smell this cigarette smoke smell?? The I noticed to the left of my wife an older man with a long beard drink a bottle of beer. He must smoke a lot cause the smell of smoke he was giving off was pretty strong and stunk and he went outside a few times to smoke before he finally left. Well the prime rib was quite large and about 3/4 of an inch thick and came with a little container of horse radish and washed potatoes with gravy and some sliced carrots. Also a medium sized yorkshire pudding with some gravy on it. Now I grew up with an English friend and his grandmother made the best yorkshire pudding I have yet to taste anywhere, it was large cut in the middle with beef bits and gravy and was soooo good. However the pub tried but not even close , sorry. The prime rib was soft in some parts and chewy in some parts and had about 30 % fat which I have pictures of . So, my friends account of a very large prime was not quite accurate by about 30% ha ha. The people at the bar to the left of me were friendly one person an older man left and another came and sat down and was also friendly. I had to use the washroom before we left and it was very clean as was what I saw with the rest of the pub when we ate our prime rib. As we left thank God I had finished eating a tall man who was eating and drinking at a bar table with some other people behind us clear his throat and it was disgusting and he looked at me as he was doing it ugh. I also noted 3 or 4 of the vacant tables to the right of the entrance were now occupied by some older people I assume to eat prime rib . Then I thought maybe these tables were reserved? However I didn't noticed and reserved signs on the tables when we first arrived. It's a pub I would not say it's bad or good but I've eaten better and I've been to many countries in my life at 74 yrs but give it a try you might like it ? The drinks were reasonable so there's an Insentive and they do have $4.95 burger night but u have to buy a drink still a good deal. So get the guys together watch a hockey game and try the food it won't break...
Read moreWe came for my dads bday. (will provide date/time if owner asks; server had long black hair, there were 2 with same hair but she was the mouthy one while the other was quiet and polite-definitely can tell the difference) The place wasn't very busy. coming quite regularly for years. the only issue has ever been the service. When our food was ready everything came out except my Dad's meal. Unfortunately it's clear the servers have not been trained properly, that is why I was hit in the face with a plate. when you're serving somebody you don't cross over the table to serve them if you can walk right beside them to serve. I know accidents happen so I didn't say anything except it's fine. Our server and another one came to the table to ask if I was okay. I said I was fine however if I had said no I'm not okay what would they have done, berated us some more? I was hit hard enough that my eyebrow bruised! My father's meal came out last & the steak was cold;clearly had been sitting for a while. tried to get her attention several times but despite not being overly busy she was preoccupied with socializing. tried to get her attention several times but despite not being overly busy she was preoccupied with socializing. she finally asked at the end how everything was we told her that the steak was cold. the response was "well he should have told us that before" Excuse me? It would have been much less to offer the meal for free or even half price considering what happened & would cost less then using more product to make another meal, but nothing was offered except attitude. When it was time to pay the bill our server said "you know it wasn't me right that hit you in the face" all were quite surprised with the tone of voice and what she said. well aware it wasn't her & when I asked her why the confrontation, her response was "well the other server said that you seemed a little upset" "Actually I never said anything to them!" i responded. of course I wasn't okay was hit hard enough that I bruised. When we left you we were so very surprised about the interaction. I went back in to ask our server why we were treated that way. Our server says to me "all I did was asking how you were" when I said "no actually you didn't you confronted us saying..." she didn't even let me finish & she told me she wasn't going to argue with me so at that point I asked for a manager as all three of them were standing there talking about us when I came back in the bar. I was told that they don't have that there. I had enough & I was walking out our server yelled across the bar & said "maybe you were hit in the face because you were over served!" i told her "you do realize if i was overserved that you are liable for that?" The reality is i wasnt overserved, I had a drink and a half. I guess she doesn't realize she's responsible and so is the bar, the fact that she yelled it to a whole bar is hilarious. I wasnt going to post anything until i spoke with my friend who works at the Liquor Board. She was shocked that someone would yell that I was overserved & said I should probably post something. so the non-manager or owner is aware as to what is happening when there's no supervision on the weekends. Hopefully they can either train their servers or get new ones because that is not the way you treat customers especially ones that have supported a local business for years. our server was very immature but did not look young at all. The more people i talk to the more have the same issue with some of the servers..food is good so not the cook as again she blamed them for the steak being cold BTW instead of taking...
Read moreI went to the pub 15 after 9 with my girlfriend. We sat down, and I ordered a blue rare steak. First time we get the steak, it came out well done. This happened frequently at this pub every time we bought steak; I was like "no worries! It's ok. Can I get it redone?" The second time it comes out, it came out frozen, mushy, unnaturally dark, tasteless, unevenly cooked, stiff steak. My girlfriend takes a bite and she said," this tastes like a tasteless grey piece of mush." I became incredibly irritated they had the audacity to serve frozen food, so I asked to talk to the kitchen staff. A manager named Mark comes to our table and we explain what was wrong and his reaction was priceless. He started lecturing us about how blue rare steak was supposed to be cold(it was frozen) and that we didn't know what we were getting (you gave us well done the first time when we asked for blue rare? And my girlfriend LOVES blue rare steak, and our family used to cook our own steak with blue rare being my second favourite steak after rare) and that the steak here isn't right for us.(maybe because it's frozen?) He then proceeds to lecture about public display of affection and how making out in a pub made three people uncomfortable and that he would like to keep things "adult like"..... In a pub. What do you expect from a pub? Awestruck, we decided that it wasn't our best interest to talking to a three year old boy who is flexing his ego rights over him serving us frozen food and who dumps his loneliness to his customers. We leave the place around 9:45 and 20 minutes later, I start to have an intense gagging session. For the entire night I had stomach cramps, excessive burping, nausea, and even more gagging. When I woke up around 7 am, I started having intense stomach cramp, and started having explosive diarrhea for nearly 20 minutes. The arms used to be our go to date place and our hang out place, and we're never going back again, because our experience there was horrific that night. This is why you should never let a three year old boy who thinks it is ok to serve a frozen steak run a restaurant.
Ps. The manager has gotten into a fight with my girlfriend's dad before. He is super calm and patient even during his biggest dispute, and Mark stepped over the line.
Also, we will miss you Elizabeth, you have been very kind and pleasant to us, we thank you for your service. I wish I could have tipped you better.
Edit: 8:34 am, another wave of explosive diarrhea. I feel extremely nauseated, dehydrated and even more cramped up. 9:30 am, another wave of explosive diarrhea. The symptoms are a little bit alleviated, but still feel nauseous.
12 pm: stomach cramp intensifies, thinking about going to a walk in clinic.
I've been feeling this sick with only one bite. I don't want to find out what kind of state I would be in if I had the whole steak.
Edit: the next day I started having stomach cramps again. Thank you Mark for serving blue rare steak!...
