Came in for the lunch buffet a while ago and it was honestly a great experience. The gentleman there that day was the most pleasant and attentive. Maybe the manager or owner but either way he was awesome. Even brought us our free drinks to our table. The food is good! And I've had a lot of butter chicken in my life. All the usual favourites were there and I left happy and full. Can't beat the price either! Ordered the lunch special to go today and man, one of the best. I really like a little bit of everything and most places only give you one veg or non veg dish and rice and naan, but here, you get three dishes plus rice, naan and pakora. Everything was so good, the chutney was perfect. The price is the best compared everywhere else. The service is good! Always nice and friendly. The restaurant itself is clean, bright and have lots of seating. Over all an excellent place! Best of all I don't have to go to surrey anymore!

I always order from "The Bombay Sweets" on Shaughnessy. Although, I heard of a few vocal negative reviews of this place about the lack of true Indian taste, I went ahead and made an order with "The Bombay Restaurant" this time. I ordered 2 Indian curry(s) - Dal Maharani/Makhani and a Mixed Vegetable Korma and a few Naan(s). When I made an order over phone, I made a specific mention to make the curry(s) Indian spicy. But, forget about spicy, I ended up getting the curry(s) tasting sweet! I called up asking them and they simply told me that its a mistake and they can make them again. By then, I already have guests at home and its not the time for me to run for another pickup. I will never order again from this place and continue with my old and best choice - "The Bombay Sweets" on the Shaughnessy. Try there and you will never regret your choice then!

Easily my favourite Indian restaurant in the lower mainland. I like it so much that I come all the way from Richmond to dine here. The buffet provides a balance of excellent quality and excellent value. Food is consistent and well prepared. My favourite are the butter chicken, goat curry, and fresh naan. The restaurant is physically very clean and I've always felt very comfortable inside. The service is also very good. I dined in for lunch recently and came in 30 minutes before their lunch service was scheduled to finish. Despite this, I was not rushed and offered more fresh food despite the time already lapsing. Talk about going above and beyond. Thanks for the awesome experience!!!

Horrible service! Staff is very not welcoming and unpleasant, menus are dirty and last I went the man bypassed tip quickly and charged me extra 20 dollars without my consent. They are super unfriendly, and feel like they watch ppl eat , the kitchen ppl come out in dirty aprons . Washrooms are pure disgusting 🤮 . They prob don’t hire cleaning women cause they barely have any waitress’s and the owner is so rude and serves food himself. Fish tika is not bad (have had better) but horrible experience. Best to take home and eat and home and clean environment. They are just very unpleasant and only Indian restaurant In Coquitlam so they know when ppl have Indian craving that’s only go too! But they need more staff , a deep clean and friendly bubbly host! Revamp and perhaps renovation! (This review was actually a month ago) won’t let me write another one some reason, so I am adding to this and most current review which was last night !

All I can say is WOW!!! My sister went to this restaurant last night and called me very upset said the OWNER was so unbelievably RUDE, and unprofessional. First asked her name , and then when she was going to order the food pulled out his PHONE in front of them scrolling through a good 2 -3min which they had no idea why cause they just wanted to order the dinner ,they were so uncomfortable and confused the OWNER ignored them and then went back to the cash register started scrolling more cause he couldn’t find what he was looking for during their order. Once he finds what he is looking for which was a review (I made )and ACCUSED her this is you!!!!!!! And even read the review and showed them and said this is reason I was looking at my phone! It gets worse, Even questioned there order last they came in & said you were sitting there and pointed (when it was me)!!!

Regardless if someone writes a review good or bad as a OWNER of a restaurant who calls someone out?!! And didn’t once apologize since he assumed it was me who wrote the review, he seemed so angry that they felt so awkward and even wanted to leave cause they were afraid they were going to do something to the food! He is so unbelievably unprofessional!!!! I highly recommend ppl not to go here! If this was cactus or earls or tasty bistro no manager would behave like this! Non ethnic ppl don’t know what good Indian food is cause they think all Indian food is great! The owner had no waitresses and was going to tables himself, he doesn’t hire staff, you barely can get a napkin or cutlery. They don’t give new cutlery after appetizer for dinner. Use the same one.

My sister called me really, really Upset said we never been treated like this! And feels so sick after eating there, the thoughts of what they possibly can do to food.

Please do not go here! The old owner and food was great! I am So shocked this place is running by this owner! Only desperate ppl go here simply cause there is no other Indian restaurant in that area!

Pls drive 25 min go try tasty bistro it is upscale decent pricing and amazing food and service and very trendy restaurant!!! Highly recommend. This is by far is worst Indian restaurant and I’m Indian myself and know the difference between horrible and great Indian food! This owner had zero class nor proper manners as a business owner. Shame on him! And it’s word of mouth, he’s lucky My sister didn’t take a video of his behaviour. Everyone has the right to write a review good or bad it’s an experience you save someone else .

Please drive to Surrey and every corner there is amazing Indian restaurants!

I myself nor will my sister or anyone I know will ever go here again! This was just so upsetting when I went in and now my sister feels sick even eating the food. Any good reviews must be from owner or honestly ppl that don’t know too much about Indian food . Also the lack of staff and manners is mind blowing. I never write bad reviews, this is actually first time I have complaint about a restaurant.

Thank you for taking the time to read and I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone! Save your time...

[Updated Review – July 6, 2025] I originally mentioned “the owner” when praising the excellent service, but I’ve since learned the person I was referring to is actually a staff member named Kishan. He’s been serving us regularly and deserves full credit for the personalized, attentive hospitality. I've updated that section below to reflect this. I hope the owner sees this and recognizes Kishan’s outstanding contribution—he truly makes a difference to the dining experience.

A Hidden Gem for Customized Indian Cuisine – Worth the Drive from Burnaby!

I recently rediscovered The Bombay Restaurant in Port Coquitlam after several years—and I’m so glad I did. Under new management, the restaurant has truly become a standout in the area for both its food and service.

One of the key things that sets this place apart from many other Indian restaurants is their flexibility with spice levels. Most Indian spots tend to pre-marinate dishes with heavy spices, which leaves little room for adjustment. But at The Bombay, they prepare dishes to your desired spice level. I prefer milder flavours, and each time I’ve ordered mild, the kitchen has delivered just that—perfectly balanced, flavourful, and gentle on the palate. Only once did my dish come a bit spicier than expected, but given that they’ve consistently gotten it right otherwise, I’m happy to overlook it.

What truly elevates the experience is the warm, attentive hospitality—especially from Kishan, the staff member who has been serving us during most of our visits. Initially, I had mistaken him for the owner due to the level of care and personal attention he provides. He remembers our preferences and makes a genuine effort to accommodate us every time. Friendly, attentive, and sincerely committed to making each meal enjoyable, Kishan leaves a positive and lasting impression. After just a few visits (I’ve now been five times), it already feels like we’re regulars. I hope the owner of the restaurant sees this and shares my appreciation with him, as his service has been a big part of what keeps us coming back.

The restaurant itself is clean, spacious, and family-friendly, with plenty of parking, and the atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming. It’s perfect for casual dining and group gatherings. That said, I do feel that if the interior were modernized a little, it could attract even more guests. The current setup is functional and comfortable, but with some aesthetic upgrades, the ambiance could better match the quality of the food and service.

Even though I live in Burnaby, I’m more than happy to make the drive out to Coquitlam for this kind of experience. If you're looking for delicious Indian food that can be tailored to your taste, The Bombay Restaurant is absolutely worth a visit.

Highly...

I have a lot of empathy when I write reviews for local businesses. This review became little harsh but it must be done.

I’m one of the frequent customer to this restaurant for buffet lunch and the staff during lunch time are generally nice and attentive (If you go during lunch time, look for Suraj who is a nice young man).

My dinner experience was horrible this evening. The restaurant had only 11 customers at the table and 4 workers at the floor when I was dining in. It is important for the waitress to show the customer the right table to sit. Instead I ended up walking in and chose the table on my own. The first thing is to fill the water at the table and it never came. They were all simply standing at the bar, put their heads down and didn’t even look at the customer’s table.

I ordered a Chicken Makhani and White Rice but they served Pulao Rice. After noted, they changed it. Again, I had to look at them for few minutes, wave my hand to gain their attention. The chicken also had bones which is not acceptable.

When started giving feedback, the waitress told me that she is not working there and just helping the family this evening. Really? She also claimed that they run restaurants for many years. The attitude!! Immediately I assumed that these people don’t need feedback to improve themselves.

This restaurant got a new management this month. The food and the A’ la Carte service are terrible. Until the new management understand the importance of service and quality food, it stays as a TOTAL RIP OFF! I would suggest to stay away from this place...
