Glen Park — Attraction in Coquitlam

Forty years ago this was THE park in the district.

Long before the Town Center was even a glimmer in Lou Sekora's mind Glen park was the only place to be on a summer evening or a weekend.

Those who were here in the eighties will remember lineups just to get into the outdoor swimming pool, sadly, the pool was taken out over three decades ago. My two girls got their swimming lessons in Glen Pool.

Now? It's just a place you walk through on the way to Skytrain or the Mall.

Although it makes me mad that dog poops can be found frequently on the grass, I love the lavish green space of this park. However, it seems like the City has cut down many valuable old-grown trees and is planning to install some new concrete recreational infrastructures. I think these facilities can be built elsewhere. A good sized park near a residential area with a playground, a dog park, and lots of green space for people to enjoy. You can often find families at the playground, seniors sitting on the benches, and people with dogs socializing at this park year round. It is great to see that this big space is used as a green space instead of just another condominium that keeps popping up...
