Vihaan's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Prince Rupert

When I retired some 12 years ago I had been fortunate enough to find a little island community (Oona River) about 26 miles southwest of Prince Rupert, British Columbia to spend my summers at and escape the heat of my California town. Oona River is a very small island community that has no restaurants, although it has several facilities available for a daily, weekly, monthly stay. I might as well mention that while you wander around the Oona community you'll have the opportunity to see any number of types of wildlife, aquatic and birds (fortunately no bears on the island). But back to why I rated Vihaan's Pizzeria 5 stars. As with many people one of my favorite foods is pizza! Sadly Prince Rupert has been lacking in that department. So by the time I come from my "little cabin by the sea" at Oona River (I don't come into town until it's time to leave the river) it's usually been close to 7 months since I had a pizza and I'm usually jonesing pretty hard for one. I had heard from several of my Canadian friends that a new pizzeria had opened in town in the old Zorba's restaurant. So last night when I arrived in town, I checked into the Prince Rupert Prestige hotel, dropped my bags in the room and immediately went across the street to Vihaan's Pizzeria. I walked up to the ordering desk and told the fella behind the counter that I had heard they make a decent pizza and that they only had 1 chance to impress me. I have to admit that I actually was somewhat impressed immediately when I asked if they have green olives, which most pizza places these days don't offer. He told me they do, so I preceded to order my favorite combination pizza, which I'm told by my friends that they consider bizarre ( anchovies cooked under the cheese, green olives, and jalapeno's )The fella (Amrit was his name, and as I found out later is the manager) said he was personally going to build my pizza, and that he would have it ready in 10 minutes. He did and it was! I hurried back to my hotel room, opened the box, enjoyed the initial waft of hot pizza and grabbed a slice. Bottom line is that it is by far the best pizza I've ever had in Prince Rupert and rivals most of the best pizzas I've had anywhere in North America. And they are open to 1am which is unique in this part of the province! I've since discovered that they also have thin crust, which is my actual favorite. It was a very disappointing day for us at Vihaan Pizzeria due to the poor customer service we received. We were a group of three from Terrace who entered the restaurant for dining. The server provided us with menus, but when we were ready to order, she informed us that they were no longer serving dinning due to being busy. This surprised us, as we had come all the way from Terrace and were looking forward to eating there. After some discussion with the girl who was doing their job, they agreed to serve us. We ordered three Masala Dosas and a Paneer pizza and waited for about 20-25 minutes. The server brought the Paneer pizza first and mentioned a delay with the Dosas because they were using the pan for something else. Despite our willingness to wait, the server's comment about Terrace not being far and her frequent visits there came across as rude. We didn't feel welcomed and eventually decided to leave the restaurant. Today at 6:50 pm we 3 people came to our beloved terrace especially Prince Rupert, because we specially came here only to eat Vihaan's food, when we entered the place the first girl who attended us gave us the menu. Then when we called her to order, she first told us that we are not having dinning because we have more orders for delivery, then we said that we came very far from, can you please let us eat here , after that the girl forced us to change our order, but after 10 minutes she came back from the kitchen and she said dosa would be timed, she forced us to change our order. Then, we again said that we had come here from terrace especially to eat dosa, but she rudely replied that you did not come from soo far, Which felt very rude to us, after that we left that place, I have also worked in fast food for 3 years, or I have always referred this restaurant but no customer has ever been sent back, I respect ours community .
