It’s really nice to come to a strange town and receive top notch service and good food in a comforting and relaxed environment with a great atmosphere, Great West provided all of this within moments of me sitting down. I always approach new restaurants with a bit of trepidation as you never really know what to expect, this place looked like it predominantly catered to western tastes which it does but I was delighted to find traditional dishes and tofu on the menu my favourite hot pot “8 jewels hot pot” was called “special tofu hot pot” but was still the delightful mix of tofu, vegetables, seafood and pork, absolutely delicious and for kicks I tried the almond chicken which was superb, they also have Mapo Tofu and a host of other dishes. The place was busy with family after family of people packing the place, the servers were excellent fast polite and very kind, and it was wild to watch them hustle and yet be so efficient, great service! The owner was also very nice and has a great sense of humour, the place was very clean and bright so it was very comfortable to enjoy a meal here and I can truly understand why it’s so popular!

UPDATE: The food can be hit or miss. Last time I went it felt like the chicken wings bearly had any meat on them. I stopped coming here after getting wings with more batter than chicken one too many times. I have yet to find another location with their old wings quality and flavor though - it use to be by far one of my favorites. ------ I always order the deep fried chicken wings with fries and gravy and it has always been great quality. We ordered the spring rolls and a wonton soup to share between 3 and it was a nice appetizer size. Portion size is good for the price and food flavorful. They have chilly sauce which has a nice spice with a sweet garlic flavor, for the chicken wings - it's pretty spicy so I suggest trying a small amount first. Tables are very comfortable and customer service is very friendly and attentive.

i didnt give 1 star because maybe they will reply but our combo dinner delivery last night was gross. my child wouldnt even try it, it looked like it was frozen and thawed. i have photos because the chicken was grey, it smelled bad.. and the noodles were so lucky it was looked like spaghetti NOT chow mein. there was no crispiness to the deep fried prawns at all.. it was so grossand soggy. the color also was pale like why i thought they just gave us something old. hearing the good reviews about staff i gave a neutral 3 star. we did not dine in so three star. it was delivery. i will never order again. i had to question is this is the same place i orderd last year and same thing. no thank you. it was rude and insulting it was so bad.

Went to the restaurant last night, there were a few tables full of people dining in. The server asked me if I was picking up an order, I said no I'd like to sit and eat. She brings me a menu at the door and says I can order take out. I asked if dine in was open, she replied yes so I said I'd prefer to eat in. She looks at the patrons, and then looks at me and goes 'take out?' no, I'd like to eat in. I'm staying in a hotel and don't have the option of plates and cutlery at my hotel. She sits me over at the bar which is filthy by the way, and lets me order. I start to notice the place is very dirty and the glass cooler is so gross you could hardly see through the glass! THEN she brings my food in a paper bag and says 'you take it to go' so, I leave with my food because I'm clearly not wanted here. My lemon chicken was chewy and most was just batter no chicken, my s&s spare ribs were just battered bones literally no meat. And the pork on my chow mein was horrid. How on earth does this place have a good rating? I will be reporting the filth to northern health as well. If you aren't a local, don't bother going unless you want a very...

Okay, pretty sure the 5-star reviews are fake/paid.

I paid $41 after tax for 2 #1 combos. I got the mushroom chow mein instead of chicken for one, and S&S chicken balls for both.

Chicken balls are okay. They sort of taste fishy, probably from the oil.

Sauce is fine, maybe a little thick.

The rice is alright, but it and the chow mein are SO plain. I've never had chow mein as bland as this.

The chicken is shredded and sprinkled on top, and doesn't exactly taste great.

The portions are very large, but for $20/each they better be. They had 5 chicken balls, which is pretty much average.

We ordered take-out, which took 30 minutes and the lady I placed the order with seemed impatient/rushed/irritated.

Overall, pretty unimpressed. We definitely enjoyed Stardust more, but they're very similar. I would sooner order Stardust, but it's almost like they have the...
