My friend and I visited for the second time in a row because we had such a fantastic experience the night before. When we arrived the first night, we were waiting at our table for around 10 minutes before a waiter approached us and asked if we had been served yet, and offered to serve us since we had not been served or acknowledged. He was wonderful, and is the reason why this is a 2-star review and not 1.

If I was rating only our experience on the first night, it would have been a 5-star review. We enjoyed all of our drinks and he even served us his favourite drinks, which were all delicious. He was personable and serviced us very well. We were well-paced on our drinks and never felt like it was too much. You could tell he was very busy but was tending to his tables efficiently and all the while being extremely courteous.

Even walking in, we were a little wary even before being seated because the first hostess gave us up-down glares and the hostess the next day let us stand there for an uncomfortable amount of time while she typed on her computer and refused to even acknowledge us while we patiently and awkwardly stood there (we were also the only ones there and there was no line).

We were so excited to return for a second time because we enjoyed the experience so much we wanted to come back, even though we were only visiting for the weekend. We waited at least 30 minutes after finishing our first cocktail before he came back to ask us if we wanted another drink. We were patient but became irritated after he wouldn't even notice us flagging him down as we watched him serve everyone around us and completely walk by and ignore us. Our waiter from last night was the one to approach our table and ask if we wanted another drink, to which we asked for the bills. We even waited another 10 minutes just to use the machine.

We regret coming back because we had other plans to enjoy the rest of our night, but ended up spending 2.5 hours for 2 drinks. As two paying customers who were willing to spend our money here, we were disappointed to feel ignored. It seems like a trend considering the other low reviews that have been left of this establishment.

Out of every restaurant we went to during our visit in Québec, this was the only place that we had such an...

It is a beautiful bar with good service and a nice view. Drinks are standard expensive for a hotel bar of this caliber. My 2 star review is based on the fact that at the level of this hotel they should not miss key details and then be rude about it. I was there on Thursday of last Week, August 9 with my wife in the late afternoon for a glass of wine. We enjoyed it and were walking by the next day at around noon when I suggested we go back in for another. We went in and they were closed. Not a big deal..seemed weird as there were people everywhere but we moved on. The next day being Saturday at about 2pm we decided to travel back up to the hotel for a glass of wine once again. This time I was smart though and checked the hotel website and the bar website to see their hours of operation. Clearly stated they open at 2pm. Fantastic we thought. So we made the special trip to get there for about 2:15 just to find out it is closed. Upon asking the staff that were working in the bar at the time when they opened they said 4pm. I commented that the website said they were open at 2pm. The response, in a pretty arrogant way was that they had "lots to do and so today it is 4pm" So my review is more about the people that run the bar and their lack of attention to detail and the arrogance they have. I guess because they don't have to work hard to get people to come to their bar they can be that way but frankly it puts a damper on my desire to stay at any Fairmont in the future...and I have stayed at...

I give one star for the atmosphere, which is a clever juxtaposition of classic and modern, with a fantastic view. The second star is for the cocktails: quite pricey but both my drink and my partner's drink were delicious and unique. But the positives end there. The service was slow and dismissive. We were seated for 30 minutes before we had cocktails in hand. We had to flag down the servers to get any attention, sometime multiple times. The place was busy but not unusually so, as they limit capacity. The seats--we were seated near the window rather than the bar--were very low to the floor and uncomfortable. The final straw for me was when a manager broke a glass, and left the broken glass on the floor for over 5 minutes before someone finally cleaned it up. The broken glass was in a server and customer pathway, on a hot day when customers were wearing sandals walking through the glass. No one took initiative to clean the broken glass until they saw me taking a photo...it was emblematic of how we were treated...

Bar 1608 is definitely my favorite bar to go to when going to Quebec city. Located in one of the most photographed hotels in the world, Chateau Frontenac, this bar feels like luxury, the drinks menu with pictures is well done. The staff is professional and always making sure you are having a good time!

After a stressful train ride from Montreal, 1608 Bar filled my cup… literally! The drink menu is gorgeous! There’s beautiful hand-painted photos of the drinks as well as a write up of the history, ingredients ands anything else. There’s a cocktail specifically made for Anthony Bourdain. The Old Fashioned was out of this world-definitely in my top 5 ever! My server Henri was lovely and recommended some things for me to do while in QC! He was incredibly busy so it was nice to chat for a hot sec. The bar itself is masculine with dark wood, books and a fireplace. The views of the St. Lawrence are awesome (if you’re seated near a window). The tables are tightly packed together so you so absolutely overhear (and possible even meet!) your table neighbors! The bathrooms are in the hotel (go to the 1st Christmas tree and turn left!) but there’s several stalls. There’s also several staff members if you get lost on your way back! Everyone speaks perfect English as well!
