The reviews are misleading
Very few places are open late and I'm guessing that is the reason for so many good reviews.
If you want to experience the kinda food you'd eat while camping this is it. Nothing special, definitely not a 4.5 stars. Buddy asked for a tip upfront before I even paid. Food ain't gourmet but if you're hungry it gets the job done. Burgers taste the same as a&w buddy burger but it's 5$ ish. Hot dogs are exactly the same as you'd buy from Walmart or any other grocery store.
Poutines are garbage, the fries were okay, the gravy was aight, but the cheese had a rubber texture. Never had that w cheese curds before. Considering other reviews say its the best i have no idea where that comes from. Costco is honestly better and that dosent say much. Paid 30$ for 4 cheeseburgers and a micro poutin. Felt really expensive. Friends had the same opinion, couldn't believe how dog the whole thing was.

Read moreAfter looking up multiple reviews for a go to poutine place in Quebec City; multiple blogs had Chez Gaston on their site
Being from Alberta, there’s not much selection for classic French poutine. However, this one has become the top place for me and is a necessary place to visit when in Quebec City.
The Gaston and Sylton poutines are great. Crispy bacon, hot dogs, well seasoned ground beef (well seasoned flat top) and onion. The cheese curds are massive and have the quintessential squeak. The gravy was rich, thick, and flavourful. The fries are hand cut leading to an overall better product compared to the bagged classic frozen fries.
The service was great even with French not being my first language. Very unpretentious. The place is the greasy hole in the wall restaurant that produces solid food.
This place is a must for anyone in Quebec City when looking...
Read moreI walked 30 minutes to check this little spot out while visiting Quebec City after reading reviews. Absolutely worth the trek! I was greeted by Stephane this sweet gentleman working the grill. He was so friendly and did his best to speak english and made me feel right at home. He explained a lot of people pop in late night and it’s always busy. I ordered a regular poutine and was pleasantly surprised.. squeaky cheese and hot gravy with fresh homecut fries. Stephane came around and served cold water in paper cups.. the small gesture went a long way with me. It’s a little hole in the wall place..small but has a lot of character. I always love checking out genuine places that focus on the quality of food rather than fancy decor. I would recommend checking it out if your ever in town! If you do.. tell Stephane Jenn and Stephanie...
