Time of Visit: Early evening on August 19th Order: Cappuccino, iced latte Pros: Strength of the coffee, coffee house "feel", odd coffee creations Cons: n/a
Thoughts: This is the winning coffee shop of our trip into Quebec, in fact it easily ranks in the top 10 coffee shops I've ever visited. This is saying a lot given that my wife and I have visited easily over 100 coffee shops around the world and are EXTREMELY picky when it comes to coffee. The coffee here is strong, not the we're trying to make a point and kill you strong. More like the I want my espresso with some bite strong, as in the perfect amount of strong. These people knew how to pull a shot, both the cappuccino and the iced latte were some of the best I had ever had, and neither of them tasted watered down at all they were both as close to perfect creations I you could have gotten.
This place also felt like a coffee shop, I honestly like my coffee shops large, where multiple groups of people can gather to talk, hang out, play games, or just enjoy the perfect cup of coffee together. This place definitely had that vibe; it could easily several large groups of people. There were plenty of tables and chairs, along with a few couches, soft chairs, and bar style seating. Walking in I immediately wanted to sit down and take my time with our coffee; unfortunately I didn't have the luxury of time as we had someplace to be shortly but I wish I could go back just to enjoy the atmosphere. I love being in a coffee shop almost as much as I like drinking coffee so finding a great example of each in the same location was a real treat.
They also had a lot of odd coffee "creations". They had mugs, t-shirts (ridiculously cheap t-shirts I might add, they were less than $10 so my wife and I each bought one), coffee of all varieties, and one coffee oddity I just had to try; pulped coffee. It comes in a large bag and, as the wonderful barista explained to me, you brew it like tea by adding hot water and letting it steep for 8 minutes. I have never tried this method of coffee and was so excited about trying coffee a new "way", this is incredibly rare given all the coffee we drink.
Overall this place was just amazing. It easily earns its way into the list of best coffee houses I have ever visited; joined the ranks of truly legendary coffee houses like Two Story Coffeehouse in Athens Georgia and Bold Bean Coffee in Jacksonville Florida. It is depressing that I will almost certainly never get the chance to visit this...
Read moreWe came here after seeing the reviews on Google Maps, and Nektar did not disappoint. The cafe was 2/3 packed with customers that consist of a (kinda loud) family, many young adults working on their books or laptops, and some other couples/small groups that were just there to talk.
The overall ambience is very relaxing, and the space was plenty -- we didn't feel cramped at all, given this almost full house of customers!
The croissants had been sold out by the time we arrived, but they suggested that we could go buy bread at another bakery right around the corner (which was an awesome suggestion -- the bread there was great!) and just get some drink here. We ordered an Espresso and a macha latte. Both very enjoyable. We came back again on the same day after lunch to work: the attached picture is the “cold brew” and “macha latte.” (The bread in pics is from the bakery they recommended us)
Working on our laptops here with power sockets, A/C, and nice music selection is a bliss. Would surely...
Read more(This is an update to a prior review) Disaster aleeeeeeert! In my last visit I ordered an Americano, as I suggested in a prior review. Well, the Americano was…poured out of tank. Noooooooo! Pleeeease don’t do that! Getting the right type of coffee is Chapter 1 (how to make this…that…) of anyone calling him/herself a barista. We’re not aiming for international standard here but just nailing the basics of coffee making. This place is built like a Ferrari but delivers a Chevrolet. The basic material, i.e. the coffee, is excellent and there’s everything to make coffee to love but they keep failing. In fact, that what’s missing here the love of coffee. Next time, I’ll go for an espresso, the mother of all drinks. Fingers crossed.

This place has the potential to be a 5-star. Superb coffee best taken as an espresso, americano or macchiato. The milk is heated beyond its sweet spot and spoils all milk based options - latte,...
