I usually do not write reviews, but our experience here was incredibly disappointing , especially considering how welcoming and positive every other establishment in Québec City has been during our visit. Over the past four days, we’ve dined everywhere from Michelin-starred restaurants to charming neighborhood spots, all offering outstanding service and hospitality. Unfortunately, this was the first time we felt blatantly disregarded as customers.
Upon arrival, the hostess acknowledged us with little enthusiasm walked us to where we were suppose to dine to then informed us that our table wasn’t ready. We waited patiently, only to realize she had completely forgotten about us despite seating other parties who arrived after us. It wasn’t until we approached her ourselves that she finally seated us at a table that, ironically, had been ready all along.
Once seated, no menus were provided, no water was offered ; nothing. After nearly 10 minutes of being ignored, a staff member approached and asked, “Did you seat yourselves?” before finally bringing water but still no menus. Another five minutes passed before the hostess, without a word of acknowledgment or apology, dropped menus on our table with clear indifference.
Even then, we watched as others were served drinks while we remained completely overlooked. At that point, we decided to leave. It’s hard to ignore how isolating and uncomfortable it felt being the only Black guests in the restaurant — waiting for 30 minutes without so much as basic courtesy.
This experience left a bitter taste in what had otherwise been a wonderful trip. No one deserves to be treated as an afterthought, especially in a space that prides itself on...
Read moreAfter a long travel day, I strolled the area nearest my hotel to stretch my legs and to grab a quick bite to eat. Walking along the river it was like deja vu seeing Cafe du Monde (Quebec) as I had sipped on coffee at Cafe du Monde (New Orleans, LA) many moons ago. Of course I was drawn to step inside this Quebec establishment. The similarities are they, both, are Parisian-like bistros situated on a river's edge. However, in Quebec the space has that French-twist with attentive, native-speaking staff serving up French classic dishes. Since I was having a quick bite to eat I sat at the bar. It was mid-afternoon and overcast outdoors so it was not crowded. Looking around the place has an easy-going and comfy French bistro vibe suitable for solo diners and families alike. For my quick bite, I had the Argentine Red Shrimp dish with an Aperol-based cocktail (I forgot the French name for it 🤪). The shrimp left a slight spicy feel on the tongue, and the Aperol cocktail was quite refreshing. When I left I walked along the river's edge of the restaurant to appreciate the views those who sit near a window or on the patio would have. What a lovely way to...
Read moreThe “service” or lack there of at Cafe du Monde was deplorable. From the second we arrived the hostess was rude and dismissive. Walking us over to an area and claiming our table wasn’t ready then proceeded to go back to seat other patrons. We had to go back to the hostess stand to check on our table. She said it’s still not ready. Came over a few mins later and sat us at a table that had been ready the whole time. She sat us with no menus. We were hoping the waitress would redeem the situation. But she walked passed our table when giving others water and came back around asking if we “just sat ourselves here?” when we mentioned we hadn’t received menus. She went back to serving other guests and the hostess came back and dropped menus on our table without a word or apology. When the waitress did not come back to check on us we knew it was time to leave. Extremely disappointed as we’ve experienced welcoming and wonderful service everywhere else we’ve dined in Quebec City. Being the only women of color in the restaurant did not help with how we...
