This place is wonderful in many ways, but there are a few things about it that are annoying.
The large, private terrace, and the view from the terrace, are spectacular. We spent several evenings there sipping wine and enjoying the view. The problem is that, even though there are 3 large French doors leading to the terrace (and 2 of them are in the living area), the only access to it is through the smaller bedroom. If the terrace could be accessed from the living room, it would be much better. But the French doors in that room do not open. The sauna on the terrace is a very nice asset.
The kitchen is nice and very well stocked with everything you could need, even a full spice rack. There were, however, no ice cube trays.
One bedroom is large and the other is rather small. The small one contains only the queen bed and a chest of drawers. Both mattresses were very comfortable. Each bedroom only had 4 clothes hangers. I hope they add more. The clothes hanging rod in the small bedroom is over the a/c unit, so if you hang clothes there, the a/c doesn't work well.
The only full bath is accessed through the larger bedroom, which was inconvenient because we were 2 couples. For a family with kids, this would not be a problem.
The unit came with 6 large, fluffy towels, but the bath had no place to hang towels. There was 1 hook on the wall, even though there was room for several more hooks. This could easily be rectified. The powder room also had no place to hang a towel. We took a painting off the wall so we could hang towels on the nails.
There was a full-size washer and dryer, which was very convenient.
The living area was small, only a couch and 1 small end table, but adequate. It would have been better if it had had some surfaces to put things, a shelf or two perhaps, or a console under the TV. The only surface to put things on is the dining table.
We were unable to get the large TV to work, despite several texts to the host, who is not on site. The responses we got were not helpful. I hope they leave directions for using the TV in future. Fortunately, we were happy to do other things.
The location is excellent, in a quiet residential area. The closest epicerie to buy anything is 6 blocks away, a 5 minute walk. This was fine for us but might be a concern for others. Most of the bistros and restaurants are a 10 minute walk or more. The basse ville, the lower city, is a short walk downhill and the upper city, the Chateau Frontenac, is a short walk uphill, both about 5 minutes.
It's a lovely place, and I would stay there again, but I hope the host will address some of the minor issues.
Put up some hooks in both baths, add more hangers, provide access to the terrace from the living area, provide instructions for the TV, and I would give 5 stars in all categories. The view alone is...
Read moreThis is clearly not a 5-star hotel in the normal sense of the term – it’s extremely basic with almost no services. But our experience there was 5-star - a big gamble that paid off for us. |I had never heard of an ‘automatic hotel’ when I found this on the CAA website while looking for a place for 2 nights in Quebec City before our cruise. Most hotels in the Old Quebec area near the shore and cruise port are extremely expensive. This moderately-priced hotel seemed too good to be true, so I wondered what the catch was. The ‘catch’ is that you are on your own – it is ‘staffless’ in the evenings and overnight, and there are few amenities. I wondered if it were legit and safe, but we decided to take the chance since CAA listed it.|So glad we did! Entry was a little scary as we arrived after dark and the outside door of the double-entry doors stuck a bit, making me fear that we were locked out. But after a push the outside door opened, and we used our code (sent by email a couple of days before our reservation) to gain entry through the inside door. From there, we retrieved our room key from the automated lock box system in the lobby (instructions also received via email), and voila – we were in. Tip – to make this process easier, make sure to watch the video that accompanies the emailed instructions – it shows how to get your key from the lock box.|The room was quite lovely and clean, with an antique writing desk, comfortable bed, and updated washroom. The building itself is of course vintage, built right along the rampart wall high above the coast. Wifi was reliable and extra supplies (towels, soap, etc) were in a closet in the hallway if you needed them. Other than that, it was very quiet. |Best reasons for booking this hotel – quiet, comfortable, no frills, and walking distance to all the major tourist spots – Citadel, Plains of Abraham, etc. We got 20,000 steps in walking around them all in one day, enjoyed the view from our room, and saved a bundle of $$. Tip: We thought we could walk to the cruise port as it’s only an 8 minute walk, but there’s a steep cobblestone road involved. The day we left, it had rained and the stones were wet, so we decided it was safer to take a taxi. We could have walked carefully if it...
Read moreGreat experience, highly recommend and worth the price. I had a queen bed single room river view, room #101. Had zero issues, VERY simple checkin/checkout and am glad I chose this place. You can walk to everything within 15mins, its not a problem at all unless you can't walk hills/steps. If you have never been to Quebec City this is a great location on the outskirts. I parked down below @ Stationnement Saint-André - Port de Québec (reserved parking using the app Flowbird, 7min walk). Dropped my bags off inside then parked and walked back to the bldg. Step 1: Once you reserve and pay for the room you will get a check in email that needs actioned Step 2: Two days before your scheduled to stay you get an email with the front door passcode AND the keycafe aka (to get) your room key. Very simple.. go to the double doors out front, go in the first door (not locked) then go to the door with the pin pad and enter the front door code to get into the main lobby. Then go to the keypad cafe box, press the touch screen to select your language and select pickup, then enter your keycafe code to get your room key. VERY SIMPLE. When leaving the building just unlock the front door manually to leave and shut the door then after 10 sec it will auto lock. Your room key will also have the front door key, room number keychain, and keycafe tag. When you go to check out go back to the keycafe box, select your language and select check out, enter your keycafe code and then you will be prompted to scan the keycafe tag on the side of the machine which will open the slot to put the keys in. Hope this helps if you are unsure what will be needed to get the key and into the front door. I didn't hear noises because I sleep with a box fan on, the AC worked fine just always need a fan to sleep which may have helped with any noise issues others have stated. I didn't go to the 3rd floor but that is where the outdoor terrace says its located. FYI there are no elevators or breakfast and at least in our room there weren't many power outlets available (I had to unplug a lamp to use an outlet). PS - best food we had was at Restaurant Mûrmur, Seafood Fettuccine & the Wagyu Cannelloni and incredible...
