I booked this hotel based on the excellent ratings, even though it isn’t part of GHA. I wanted to try three different hotels with excellent reviews during my stay in Quebec City. But it’s a pity my stay at Auberge St Antoine was so very short. ||The Auberge St Antoine experience: ||Communication via email began about a month before my month-long trip to North America. Through Jade and later, Geneviève, I had a private transfer arranged. ||My flight from Vancouver was unfortunately delayed, and so I landed two hours later, around 8pm. It was reassuring to find my chauffeur waiting to whisk me off to the hotel. We had a good chat and he turn out to be a highly trained professional who had protected many a dignitary’s life. How about that. I felt like precious cargo. ||By the time I checked in, it was just after 9.30pm, and unfortunately there was no longer any room service. I was too exhausted to find dinner elsewhere. Thankfully a lovely slice of chocolate birthday cake was waiting for me in my beautiful room. That was my dinner. ||The hotel and location:||Auberge St Antoine is a “museum-hotel” situated in the heart of the Old Port. It has so much history, with archeological finds from both French and English regimes unearthed during its construction displayed as artifacts throughout the hotel. It is near famed restaurant La Tanière, and tourist attractions like Old Quebec, La Rue du Petit-Champlain, Funiculaire du Vieux Québec, La Fresque des Quebecois, Place Royale, L’Escalier Casse-Cou/Breakneck Steps, etc. There are also nice art galleries and shops nearby. ||The room:||Each room is given a special name/theme with an artifact next to the room number. Mine was “La chambre des sources”. The window faced a little private garden. ||My room was très chic. It was spacious, with several chairs and corners to sit and relax. Besides the chocolate cake, there was a warm note of welcome from Camille, the assistant director of talent and culture; a card from room attendant Alex, who had prepared my room; two small chocolates; two packets of tisane (herbal tea) and bottled filtered water. Everything was done with finesse. It’s a Relais & Châteaux hotel afterall. ||The bed was really comfortable and I slept very well. I also really liked the bathroom with its mosaic-tile floor and its cute sliding door, as well as the rain shower over the bath tub, the comfy robes, fluffy slippers and Canadian brand Oneka toiletries. ||Breakfast:||This was at the hotel’s Chez Muffy, housed in a historic warehouse. Amidst lots of hushed conversations in French, I had a most relaxing time. I got to choose a main dish from the menu (“Le Saint-Antoine” with well-prepared eggs, golden potatoes, crispy bacon, sausages, ham and bread), and the rest was a simple buffet. ||I thought the toast was also one of the best I had ever had - warm and crispy, with that satisfying scraping sound as you spread butter on it, then some confiture. Yum. ||Fellow guests at Chez Muffy looked well-rested, with ready smiles, and a general air of serenity and contentment. I kid you not. We were all relaxed and somehow in the mood for casual conversations with one another.||The staff:||When my driver found out I was also spending a night at the sprawling Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, he actually said that the service at the more intimate Auberge St Antoine would trump that of Le Chateau Frontenac. He was right in many ways. ||Like most top hotels in Asia, Auberge St Antoine was the only hotel during my stay in North America that prepared a slice of birthday cake for me. It also turned out to be a “lifesaver”, given my late arrival at the hotel. ||Staff were friendly and obliging. I can’t remember everyone’s names but I was very impressed when Marjorie (concierge) agreed to take me on a comprehensive tour of the hotel before checkout. It allowed me to more fully appreciate the history of the hotel and the significance of the beautiful artifacts on display throughout the hotel. Marjorie was also the first person to alert me to La Tanière, where I managed to dine at two nights later, after it was awarded two Michelin stars.||Another staff who formed a positive impression was the friendly and chatty Antoine at front desk; it was of course much easier to remember his name. ||I must also thank housekeeping staff Alex for preparing my room so well, and the friendly and efficient staff at Chez Muffy. ||There was even a parting gift of two huge cookies in a box, and a complimentary transfer service up the hill to Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, with the assigned driver offering help if I ever needed it. That showed care, and someone going the extra mile. ||A truly memorable stay:||Auberge St Antoine offers understated elegance, as well as exceptional hospitality and comfort. I had a really pleasant, super short stay. ||Highly...
Read moreWe stayed for 5 nights in June 2025 in a junior suite. I had asked for a quiet room with a good view on a high floor and a balcony.||When we arrived I was disappointed with the room as it was very long and dark and the view from our room, which was meant to be of the Old Town, was mainly of a brick wall. We should have complained at the time but accepted the room as it had a balcony and was on a high floor. ||On arrival the valet and doormen were wonderful and friendly. Unfortunately we did have an issue when we checked in with the lady on the front desk as she had the wrong email and telephone number on my booking. I did find this quite concerning when she read out someone else’s telephone number and email address to me, the lady alongside suggested it was the details of the person I had booked through, but I told her I had booked through the hotel directly?! There was no apology or explanation and it wasn’t a great first impression.||We also had an issue with housekeeping as on one very wet day when we left our room at 10.45, and had left the green light on for our room to be serviced, we returned to our room at 3.45 to find it had not yet been cleaned. I have not had this happen before in a higher end hotel and we were very disappointed as we then had to go and sit in the bar and wait for the room to be cleaned.||We did report this to reception but again they did not apologise or offer to pay for drinks at the bar, we were just told housekeeping is carried out until 5pm and we should tell them when we go out if we want our room serviced early.||We had hoped we wouldn’t experience any other issues, but then we were woken up at 6.30am on Monday morning by the loud sounds of building work going on next door, which we have since found out is an extension to the hotel. We also awoke to find a very large red crane overhanging our balcony which was quite disconcerting. We did think this was a one off but when it happened again the next morning we went down to reception to complain. They said we could move rooms but as they were very full we would have to move straight away, which we couldn’t do as we were going out early in our last day for a day trip. ||The housing work did continue the next morning with even louder noise and men on the roof next to us and of course the crane. When we checked out the hotel did give us a discount of half of one nights stay, which after paying for 5 nights we did accept although it would have been nice if someone in management had reached out to us to apologise and maybe offered us somethjng as a nice gesture before we checked out.||Overall this hotel could be lovely as the breakfast staff, concierges and door men are wonderful and friendly. But the staff on reception and management should deal with complaints promptly and do more to make the guest happy if there is a problem.||The hotel should also make guests aware of the possibility of disruption due to the building works as I probably wouldn’t have chosen this hotel if I knew there was noisy building work...
Read moreAre you looking for the perfect place for a destination wedding? We were. Of course, everyone wants a place having beautiful scenery, a romantic setting, a tourist-friendly environment, and a convenient location for the guests to attend. If you live in North America, the city of Québec is just the place. It is beautifully situated, on a bluff overlooking the St. Lawrence River, with a unique culture and history, and is easily accessible, with an economy built upon tourism. Québec’s Old Town, in its architecture, is reminiscent of a European city and is wonderfully decorated, while completely lacking the crime and urban blight of most American cities. Our next goal was to find the ideal venue for a wedding with 60-80 out-of-town guests. After some on-line research, we chose the Auberge Saint-Antoine, conveniently located in Lower Old Town close to most of the attractions of the city. What a superb choice it was! On a scouting trip several months before, we explored the environs, examined the facilities, met with the staff, and experienced first-hand the hospitality that we and our guests would come to enjoy. Because all of our guests were travelers like us, we arranged activities around the wedding date to maximize their experience. In this we were indispensably aided by the concierge staff of the Auberge, in particular Audrey, with whom we communicated extensively to formulate and accomplish our pre- and post-wedding plans. For the wedding itself, we relied on Ophélie, who did an amazing job of guiding us through the maze of preparations for our special day. And what a tremendous day it was! We chose early September, and the weather gods did not disappoint. And neither did the Auberge. Everything came together beautifully, from the ceremony, the cocktail hour, the banquet, to the dancing. The food and beverage menu provided by the Auberge’s restaurant, Chez Muffy, was exceptional, from the creatively delicious hors d’oeuvres and banquet courses to their refined selection of fine wines, all skillfully and attentively served by the staff. The celebration and banquet rooms were perfectly sized for our group and provided the intimate ambiance we desired, and all program transitions during the evening were seamlessly arranged by the staff. We could not have been more pleased by the outcome, and feel certain that this view was shared by every one of our guests, particularly those who chose to stay at the Auberge and enjoy the unparalleled hospitality offered there. It was so much fun for us we wish we could do it...
