After going to the mall, my family was hungry and in the mood for some Indian satisfier. We chose Saveur De L'Inde to meet the need which seemed to have the best reviews in local vicinity. We noted a few bad reviews for customer service but figured we would take our chances.
The first thing we noticed was no private parking; parking was public and required payment. Stepping into the restaurant was pleasant, well-lit with appropriate decor. The staff seemed friendly and prompt. We placed our orders without issue along with a few special requests.
From time of order until delivery of the food was about twenty minutes. Once the food came, we realized that the order was wrong. Two orders were placed; my order included a meal of Chicken Tikka/Shrimp with several items, along with an entree of Chicken Tikka Masala.
However, the waiter must have heard wrong, because we were given an order of Chicken Tikka instead of the Chicken Tikka Masala of which I pointed to on the menu. Instead he began to argue that I indeed ordered the Chicken Tikka not the Masala dish. We asked for a side of the sauce which he obliged us with for no additional charge.
In the end, it worked out and the food was tasty and fresh, but the Masala sauce was sweet with a spicy aftertaste. The bread was very good, but limited to buttered naan. The service was ok and reasonably prompt to fill our glasses. My brother ordered the Masala dish and was very disappointed though since it cost $23 and didn't come with any rice even. He ordered it mild which was not close to mild, but at least a 5 out 10 for spice level. He was unable to give any to his child.
The last annoyance was the absence of the check. We waited for several minutes and finally just went to the register to pay the bill. For three entrees we paid $125. It was the worst value for the food experience we have had at an Indian eatery. There's no way that three dishes should come to that much and for a meal which was not prepared correctly. Overall, we do not recommend this place unless you're prepared to spend quite a lot for not so much.
Our order was the following:
Chicken/Shrimp Tikka with Pappadum, Onion Bhaji, Venerable Samosa, Vegetable Rice, Vegetable Korma, Tarka Dhal, Naan, Dessert
&
Chicken Tikka Masala, but received Chicken Tikka instead.

Read moreThis was our first time visiting Quebec city from USA and wanted to eat some Indian food. My mistake was going to this restaurant even after reading the other reviews posted by other Indians or at least people who know authentic Indian cuisine. All of the reviews given by other Indians turned out to be absolutely correct and hits the nail on the head. It was not only a total waste of money but also left a bad taste in terms of experience with regards to the service they provided. To other fellow Indians or people who know how authentic Indian food looks or taste, this is the not the restaurant to go to for Indian food.
The waiters are definitely rude to you and behave as if they are doing us a favour by allowing us to eat in their restaurant. When we asked our waiter for some suggestions and portion size his behavior and reply implied 'eat if you like or leave'. It's true that there is only one type of bread served and it is huge and is tasteless and goes waste as it becomes inedible as soon as it cools down which happens soon enough unless you eat your food in 5 mins. The Vegetable biryani they served was again exactly as other reviewers said it would be …. totally unappetizing looking and is served with lettuce and julienned carrots on top..when lettuce has no place in the cooking/making of biryani. The taste was horrible and I can only say it was worse than even newbie cooks learning to cook Indian food. We left the dish as is, with maybe 2 - 3 spoonfuls...

Unfortunately, our visit to this restaurant was far from pleasant. From the moment we stepped inside, we encountered unfriendly service, which dampened the experience. As visitors from Ontario, this was our first time in Quebec City, and our past experiences at Indian restaurants, where we’ve typically been greeted with warmth, made this encounter all the more surprising.
We noticed a lack of basic courtesy, such as a simple greeting or even a smile from the staff. The atmosphere felt uncomfortable, especially given that many reviews suggest similar experiences.
One aspect that stood out negatively was the expectation of tipping. While it’s customary in many places, here it felt almost obligatory, regardless of the quality of the food or service. To our surprise, we were directly asked for a tip, which was a first for us despite visiting many restaurants over the years.
The ambiance features images of temples, the Taj Mahal, and other cultural elements, but the overall vibe felt unwelcoming. The food itself was below average and didn’t live up to the authentic Indian flavors we expected, with a limited menu that didn’t offer much variety.
Overall, we were disappointed by the experience and hope the restaurant improves its hospitality...
