Steamboat Cafe — Restaurant in Radium Hot Springs

What an outstanding gem in Radium Hot Springs. I was there on October 13th, their second day of operation, and am SO glad I was in town to enjoy it.

My first drink at any new coffee shop is always a cortado. While it's a simple order, I've found that if a barista knows how to properly prepare this, the overall experience is sure to be delighful. Well...they knocked it out of the park! For whatever reason, a lot of "third wave" cafes tend toward under-extraction. Not so with Steamboat! It was a perfectly pulled shot that allowed for all the intricacies of the roast to be enjoyed. It was subtlely sweet with a nice, long finish. Beautiful. I also ordered a latte which did not disappoint. Thank you for a wonderful experience, and I can't wait to come back the next time...

First day we went was great! We got the bison sandwiches and honey lattes. Second time we went was pretty rough, the salmon bennys were great, but the breakfast sandwich that they have at the top of the menu was a no go. I was pretty bummed about it, $15 dollars for that sandwich was quite the stretch. We go to a lot of restaurants and unfortunately this has to be the worst sandwich we have ever had. I believe all it had was some sort of pizza sauce and egg on panini like bread. I feel really bad because the staff are awesome, but I was just so taken aback by the sandwich that I will think twice before ordering something...

The cafe is upscale, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The staff were warm and friendly. Excellent baristas made outstanding espresso drinks. That is high praise coming from a coffee snob! The food was delicious! I sampled the muffins, breakfast bun, quiche (with homemade tomato chutney) and the bison sandwich. All were outstanding, freshly made with organic ingredients. The prices were reasonable. This list is long because I visited daily in a recent 10 day stay in Radium. A testament to my experience of...
