The staff here is terribly rude. A bit pathetic actually.. we left before trying the slop they serve.
Response: I'm not sure how that will benefit me but I'll gladly share on this public venue so that others don't waste their time and money. It's clear your staff has a selective attentiveness and level of respect for their patrons.
Thanksgiving long weekend, Sunday Oct 13th @ ~3:30pm. The tall man with a walking cast and my petite European wife waited near ten minutes at the door without any acknowledgement of our presence. Another party of about 8 people just in the door before us appeared to walk straight in. Not seeing the archaic wooden sign, "Wait to be seated", and my wife eager to see the restaurant, we explored back into the lowly occupied seating area. Upon her excitement seeing the window seats overlooking the mountains, I courteously suggested maybe we should ask about seating, intentionally aloud so that the nearby waitress overheard. To this we received a snark reply about waiting to be seated and to go back to the front - immediately ignorant and inconsiderate clearly seeing I had just labored with a club foot to come to the back and was polite enough to ask before belligerently seating myself.
We walked back to the front needlessly. A few minutes later another lady brought us forward to be seated.
While walking, my wife asked if we might be seated by the windows. Her accent is a bit difficult to comprehend, and I saw the waitress didn't understand on the first try. She asked again, politely, and this time it was understood - yet blatantly ignored. She stopped to look at her bookings, asked again if we had a reservation, to which I obviously replied no and courteously asked if she expected it to be busy. (The place was maybe at 50%) My assumption is that we were going to be seated at the back tables regardless if exactly at the requested window seat. It's almost as if the request caused the waitress to vindictively choose to seat us somewhere we CLEARLY didn't prefer, and expressed so before we sat down. A cubby hole with no view or exposure to the restaurant, a 'Private Table' as it was presented where my cast wouldn't get kicked (as is that were my concern and for my benefit). The waitress went around to the till after leaving us, stupidly enough not realizing she was literally 6 feet away from where I still stood and began gossiping with the other waitress about us and where we wanted to sit. I laughed at the ignorance and she noticed I'd heard and watched the whole interaction. She rushed back over to the table with menus to solidify our seating. She awkwardly reached inches over my head to turn on a faux fireplace while I attempted to squeeze into the seat, as if an inferno blowing down the back of my neck would keep us there.. thanks!
We sat long enough to discover the newly opened Steamboat Lounge & Forage, and continued to have a splendid getaway to the mountains, despite such a rude interruption to our day. It might do the business good to hire some staff that's not bitter, old and ignorant. If it's a family run business, maybe it's time to retire. It really looks like there's some other reviews with similar experiences. Hopefully this brings some clarity to why your restaurant deserves 0/5...
Read moreFrom the beginning of the experience to end, there were errors. Our reservation was given away but that was remedied pretty quick luckily. Service was very poor. First drink came out incorrect and i had pointed out to the server i had not ordered a wine, rather a long island iced tea. No apologies and didn't taken an opportunity to make it up to us. I drank the wine anyway as we had been waiting a while.
We had a severe allergy at the table and asked what options there were that were safe for this person only to wait over 10 mins to ask Again if he had asked the kitchen about the safe items. He responded that the kitchen was busy and he hadn't asked. We asked him again to go check.
After 40 mins of waiting for our food i had asked for an update on the progress of our order. Kids food and one appetizer we had asked come out with the mains came then. We waited an extra 15 mins for the mains. I was misinformed about a menu item therefore it didn't come out as expected. The server argued about this menu item even though he confirmed that this one came with breaded schnitzel. It actually came unbreaded and fried. All in all waited 55 mins for our food. Server didn't ask my husband how he wanted the lamb although it's industry standard to ask the customer the desired doneness. FYI it came out medium well. We were a pretty simple table with no extra orders or drinks. Tables that arrived after us were served their food before us.
We were underpoured for our 1/4 litre wines. We had questioned the size of our wines as 1/4 litres were ordered to our server. The server had said that was the size of the 1/4litre. It was more like a 3 oz pour. We were still quite apprehensive and went to the bar instead to confirm we were underpoured and just as I suspected the wrong carts were filled. The issue was corrected but only after further investigation and upon our insistence. No offer to cover or discount anything on the bill.
Although the food was good, i felt the menu was pricy all factors considered. Took 2 hours for an experience that should have been 75 mins max. I would have loved the opportunity to speak to a manager and i figured it should have happened given all the mistakes. They definitely missed the mark with us unfortunately and based on this experience I would not back. Just a heads up, especially if you are a larger party. It's not abnormal to expect a...

After a long day of bush-wackin through the lowlands of Boom Mountain I arrived here on the way back home. My new car squawking at me that perhaps it was time for a break. The Old Salazburg caught my eye and I pulled in. After a quick meet with the manager, my waitress Bailey was a delight. A charming personality, and a friendly smile made me feel welcome. I started with a classic for me in hot weather, Iced Tea. Walking about the place gave me the feel that it was a trapper cabin. The warm lighting with multiple balconies and plenty of sunlight had that cozy feel. Nevermind it's part of a Radium classic. And Radium itself is a nook in the rocks, and a really fantastic one at that! Several areas offered a variety of space, from a great patio, to a family room, some nice side tables for a romantic rendezvous to a private bar upstairs for a nice private function. The restaurant mimicked that highlight - a tasty stop on a travel through Kootenay Park. Wood and rock throughout, with many pieces of mountain life memorabilia. My dish was the Jagerrostbraten. Red cabbage, spaetzle and beef in a nice gravy with steamed veggies on the side. The red cabbage was okay, the spaetlze lacked nutmeg and was a bit eggy and no fresh parsley in it (I know, everybody likes it different 😉). The beef otoh was done superb with a mushroom and red wine reduction! Finished it off with a raspberry no-bake cheesecake, super yummy! It was pleasantly light and fluffy with real whipped cream.
I might not give shining reviews every time, but I try my best to be fair and honest. I can make do with okay food, as long as the people are kind and welcoming. At this joint, they do that part in spades!...
