Decent lunch specials!

Another random stop as we were driving by. This restaurant is in an unassuming plaza. We were hungry and were going to stop by Farm Boy. Then this restaurant caught our eye. We decided to give this place a try.

The place is clean. Not sure if it’s because we arrived close to the restaurant opening. Everything looked well taken care of.

The service was a bit slow. It took a while before we were seated even though the place was empty. It took longer for us to order as no one came by to take our order. They took the orders of people that were seated after us. Not sure what the deal was with that. So deducting one star for that.

When we finally got our order in, the food came out pretty quickly. We ordered off the lunch menu which comes with soup and a hot beverage of your choice. We chose HK milk tea. It wasn’t bad; lots of evaporated milk. Had a bit of the tannin taste but was flavourful.

We ordered the rice noodles with black bean sauce. I am usually hesitant about the black bean sauce because some restaurants came make it too salty. So to mitigate what could have been a disaster, we also ordered yang chow fried rice.

The rice noodles with black bean sauce just had enough sauce to cover the noodles. And not too salty at all. The fried rice was also not very salty. Both dishes were surprisingly good. Full marks on the food.

When it came time to pay, it was reasonable. $32 for the two dishes. $38 after taxes and tip. Remember, this set comes with soup which most places forego. So it’s a pretty good deal. We still had to take stuff home as we couldn’t finish everything.

Overall, the lunch experience was good. If you don’t mind the slow service, this should be a stop for a good home cooked Chinese meal at a...

We came here to have afternoon tea as a trial as we live nearby, and wanted to have a red bean ice drink as listed in their breakfast and afternoon tea menu signs (a big sign) on their windows. However, we were told that they didn't have the red bean ice drink as we were seated. As we were already seated, we decided to give it a try.

We ordered luncheon meat and egg sandwich, and chicken wing salad. However,....

We ordered the luncheon meat and egg sandwich, they gave us the ham and egg sandwich instead. Photo attached. The chicken wing salad, not Cantonese or HK tea restaurant style, instead some green leaves lettuce with quite a bit of the mayonnaise squeezes on the top of the salad leaves. Should have taken a photo to show here. The look of this salad shows - like no need to come here to eat as it's ready food that you can buy from supermarket and put them in a plate with a few squeezes of mayonnaise! I would put a salad dressing that I like instead of some squeezes of mayonnaise. I don't think any restaurant uses mayonnaise from the jar as salad dressing with no mixing with some other ingredients to be their house salad dressing. Using mayonnaise from a jar as salad dressing (wIthout mixing anything else) is thevfirst time in my life, and the worst is, it doesn't taste any good.

It's a very bad experience that I ever had to eat at a restaurant with such...

Pretty good chinese resto that's kinda randomly located in the northern part of Richmond Hill (right before you hit Oak Ridges) in a strip mall. Located at Yonge and Stouffville Rd.

Came w/ my family because we had read and heard that their food was very affordably priced and the portions were big.

The menu was very much cantonese cuisine with some hakka specialties sprinkled throughout.

The standout dishes (from what we ordered) were the braised duck with pickled plum sauce and the hakka style stuffed tofu with minced pork which was one of the aforementioned hakka specialties. I liked all the dishes except for the complimentary dessert soup (it was purple rice and taro soup w/ sago). It tasted extremely watery.

Seating was quite spacious and the service was quite good. We arrived just before prime dinner time so by the time our first dishes were getting to the table, the resto had started to fill up rapidly.

Would return! The only caveat is obviously that they're located past elgin mills which is a lil out of the way for...
