I so happened to be in King City and was looking for a spot open on Canada Day, especially during the early hours so this spot was a gem we stumbled upon! They were open for their regular hours, 8 am to 10 pm. I actually called ahead to ask the day before and he employee that answeres the phone was very polite and helpful.
There were ample parking spots, in a free parking lot. The place had its own stand alone structure with indoor seating for their cafe, as well as two areas of patio seating for those looking to enjoy their hot food items. This place has it all... Whether you want gyros, bowls, poutine or cafe items like coffee and pastries, or even gelato, as well as more grocery-like items.
The cafe/market was the obvious entrance to the establishment so that's where we went. It wasn't until we sat on the patio to eat out gelato that we realized where their hot foods area was. You actually have to step outside, and there's an entrance near the patio seating with the round black tables with umbrellas.
We couldn't resist trying many of their items:
TURKEY KOULOURI: Served on these "Greek sesame bread rings" (similar to a bagel) was turkey meat, lettuce, tomato, and cheese. This was simple yet delicious. I loved that they also offered to toast it! This made it even better with the melted cheese. A nice, light, and healthier option.
FRAPPE: I ordered this Greek iced coffee sweetened and with milk. It was minimally sweet and the milk they used is evaporated milk!
FRAPPE CAPPUCCINO: this is for strong coffee lovers! Even with sugar, this was very bitter. The foam was a very nice touch, very light and airy.
TRADITIONAL BAKLAVA: This was incredibly sweet. I enjoyed the flakiness of the pastry.
NUTELLA & COOKIES GELATO: Pretty sure this isn't very traditional gelato but the chocolate flavor was strong and I loved the cookie crumbs for texture. This was quite sweet though.
BISCOFF GELATO: This was the real reason I couldn't resist trying their gelato. Again, not the most traditional gelato, but the Biscoff flavor was evident.
The staff were friendly and helpful. We had initially ordered our Frappe Cappuccino without sugar, which was too bitter to our liking and when we told the employee, he very happily made us a fresh one that was...
Read moreI’ve had a few friends tell me that I “had to try” this Greek place. So, I finally got around to giving it a shot on July 16.
All I can say is Ουάου! είναι καταπληκτικό! (Yeah, I Google translated that). Wow! It’s amazing!
I originally was just gonna get some chicken gyros and souvlaki, but while I was waiting for it, I wandered over to the market part of the building. Best decision I made yesterday.
The moment I walked in, I was greeted by the girl at the register (I think her name is Riley). She had a huge smile and I knew this was a place that knows how to appreciate its customers. I wandered around for a bit and was just gonna get a coffee, but I started talking to her (Riley?) and she extolled the virtues of the incredible dessert counter (I had no idea there were that many Greek desserts) as well as the rest of the shop.
I ended up with a Greek coffee- that’s good and powerful stuff! I might get it 1/2 sweet next time (and there will be a next time!), but it’s worth going for all by itself.
I got some Greek cheese too that I took home and made some amazing nachos with too! If you’re a cheese fan, you got try Greek cheese!
And lastly, was the chicken I originally went for! After I left the market and walked around the corner back to the hot food section of the building, I was getting really hungry, so I got in the car and took a big bite of the gyro. The clouds parted. The angels sang. And I knew that I’d be in trouble for not waiting to eat with my ever-lovin’ wifey. But that thing was gone before I got back out on Yonge street, much less before I got home!
So, to sum up. This is an experience you want to have. And if you’re lucky, Riley will be there...
Read moreSince the cafe side did not sell hot food, went next door to Greek Market Cafe's sister restaurant and purchased their gyro box which only offered patio seating. We checked with the staff making sure it was okay to consume the food at the cafe's indoor seating and was given confirmation. We then proceed inside the cafe, purchased some pastries as well and seated. One of the staff member came over and informed us that they don't allow food from their sister restaurant to be consumed inside the cafe which was contradicting to what the staff told us earlier at their sister restaurant. This staff member offered assistance for our relocation to the outdoor patio with our food and we agreed (although it was loud and windy outside which was why we really wanted to dine inside). We thought that was the end of it, however, this staff member decided to approach us again a second time while we were seated at the patio to reiterate the fact that they don't allow food purchased from their sister restaurant to be consumed inside the cafe. Although there were signs, they were not written clear enough about this policy, which was evident by the fact that there was another customer facing the same issue. We asked this staff member to train their staff at their sister restaurant in order to avoid misunderstanding but she decided to enter into a heated argument with us. Not sure what is wrong with this place and quality of the food (both from the cafe and their sister restaurant) was nothing great either. This place is not worth my money nor time at all with their horrible...
