I recently visited on Good Friday w/ my friends for dinner.
We arrived at around 6:30pm hoping to get a table. The resto itself is quite small so we had to wait awhile before getting seated (in fact, we were the last customers of the day as they close at 8pm which we didn't know). We had the whole resto to ourselves basically after 7:20pm.
Mango salad: Refreshing and tangy! Crunchy mangoes and the seasoning was on point.
Deep fried tofu: Good fried tofu. Hard to mess this dish up. I liked that the tofu was bite-sized.
Wings w/ fish sauce: The wings were meaty and juicy. Definitely not the best we've ever had but the hefty size on these bad bois were appreciated.
Chicken meatball skewers: So we had originally ordered chicken satay skewers but the waiter accidentally sent in chicken meatball skewers to the kitchen. It was near closing time so we just ate the meatballs (which came with a peanut hoisin sauce). The balls were tasty! The waiter also removed the meatballs off the bill to account for his mistake so +1 for service.
Torched veal brisket pho: Very interesting pho that I don't think I've have anywhere else. veal was cut into chunks like pork belly and torched. It was also SUPER soft. I just wish they gave the option to the customer to order large bowls. All phos are one size.
House special pho: The friend who ordered this said it was ok. She liked our torched brisket pho more.
Grilled pork chop rice: Ok HEAR ME OUT. This pork chop rice is the hidden secret of this place. The pork doesn't have the signature char on the skin (or much grill marks for that matter), but the meat is SOO tender and juicy. Normally, lemongrass pork chop has a traditional "dry" feel that goes along w/ the char when you bite into it. This pork was moist and the seasoning was quite unique compared to usual lemongrass pork. I think they are also running a promo on the grilled pork rice right now (you get a free drink) so this dish might be the pick of the bunch tbh.
Hainanese chicken rice: My friends and I have eaten a lot of hainanese chicken rice so while it was good, it's definitely not top tier or anything. I wish the portion was larger (both the chicken and rice). The sweet chili sauce was delicious though!
I'd come back w/ my friends for a return visit! I would say they're still figuring some stuff out as they are quite new (open since end...
Read moreMy hunt for the best rice paper roll continues at Luna Vietnamese fusion and Richmond Hill. From the moment I stepped in the service in terms of politeness, attentiveness and professionalism was on point. They have a variety of $10 menu items for lunch and late afternoon which is a pretty good deal in general.
Now, on this $10 special menu the fact that you have a pho for $10 and a fresh spring roll for $10 does not make sense. I would’ve assumed maybe the fresh roll will be cheaper because of all the places that I’ve been to so far they were cheaper.
As this was a $10 price point for the grilled pork chop fresh rice paper roll, the pork was pretty good. You can see from the photo that it was a relatively large piece of meat, not chopped or shaved. The rest of the role was pretty thin not the thick girthy ones you might want. There was some lettuce, a cucumber and a carrots in there I would’ve liked a little more chopped carrots, and cucumbers maybe even an herb not sure how traditional that is but Vietnam I’m coming for you for this traditional fresh paper roll.
Overall, meat good,...
Read moreLuna Vietnamese Restaurant is a fantastic spot for a delicious and satisfying meal. The food is packed with flavor, and I highly recommend the seafood laksa—it’s rich, well-balanced, and absolutely delicious. A great bonus is that the seafood laksa comes with a complimentary lemon iced tea, which adds even more value to the meal and helps justify the slightly higher price.
The menu offers a great variety, including a student menu, making it accessible for different budgets and preferences. The service was attentive and friendly, and the restaurant itself was clean and well-maintained.
While the prices are a bit on the higher side, the quality of the food, the generous portions, and the thoughtful extras make it well worth it. If you’re looking for great Vietnamese cuisine with excellent service, Luna is definitely a place...
