Interesting to see how well Restoran Malaysia does in terms of business. My girlfriend and I went here shortly after they open at 11:30 AM on a Friday. There were a few seats taken however by the time we left the restaurant was almost all full (don't be surprised to see a line up out the door during dinner hours - I know because I live around the corner). I took my girlfriend here and her parents are from Malaysia and she has been to Malaysia many times; I have not been to Malaysia so I do not know Authentic Malaysian food. My girlfriend rated this restaurant a "failure" and at best a 1/10 or 2/10 for food taste. As many reviewers noted, there is no alcohol served at this place and the wait staff are very good at advising this is "cash only" before they seat you - that's fine, just be prepared. We ordered the following and I will give my girlfriend's review out of ten for each: Teh Tarik (4/10), Beef Rendang Curry (3/10. Too much lemongrass, the sauce is not right and the beef did not "fall off" the right way), Medan Fried Chicken (1/10. My girlfriend said the chicken was too dry and no seasoning into the meat itself like authentic chicken and the spices tasted pre-packaged. She joked KFC tastes better although I know KFC is not Malaysian), Chow Kway Teow (1/10. She just shook her head that the whole noodle dish was terrible with no "wok Hay" and the authentic flavour was totally missing), Seafood Sambal (1/10. Girlfriend said there was no authentic sambal shrimp taste and totally disappointing as well), Roti (1/10. It was not even flakey, it was just too moist and slightly soggy even when they had just served it to us hot) According to my girlfriend and other Malaysian friend I know, there is ZERO good Malaysian restaurants in the GTA. The only reason this place is full and does good business is because most people have not been to Malaysia to try the real authentic food and they just like it because it is different than other asian cuisines (different than Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese etc). Too bad. I guess I'll have to go to Malaysia to try the real deal and avoid Restoran Malaysia. If you know real authentic Malaysia food, you will be truly disappointed in...
Read moreFood is amazing, didn't find anything i didnt like. Portion and pricing is fair. Only issue is they are cheap /stingy! When we order takeout... My mom likes the deep fried bass which we order with garlic soy. When we ordered this dish for dine in garlic soy comes on top of the fish (as expected) but they did the same when we ordered it for take out the 1st time. For foodies like me, you would know if liquid is poured on food that is deep fried it becomes soggy and the crunchy is lost. So, the next time we ordered it for takeout we requested to have the garlic soy in a seperate container so we can pour it on the fish when we are about to eat.
The person taking my order had to go ask a senior about this simple request. Than and older lady comes to me and advises they don't do this and if I want to put it in a seperate container i would have to pay for a container fee ($1)....??? I begin to tell her the garlic soy would make the fish soggy, bc i need to drive home and depending if u eat it right away or not, the fish would be soggy. She than tells me 'if you go to Tim Hortons they charge you if you ask for just hot water'. I am a Tim's fan, i have asked in multiple locations for hot water, extra cups/lids/straws/spoons and i never was requested to pay. After debating with this lady she tells me she will not charge this time but will next time. I asked her: is this fee is strictly for the container, which she replied YES! So i asked her : if i brought my own container for the sauce, would i be charged? Her reply: No!!!...
Read moreWe ordered mixed satays, gado gado, murtabak, rendang, 2 rice, 2 drinks. mixed satay: the taste was very delicious, definitely recommend. rendang: as an Indonesian myself the taste was average. I don’t recommend it as a main meal. It’s not bad but it’s not that tasty too. murtabak: very tasty and i definitely recommend as an appetizer. gado gado: not the best gado gado out there. I don’t recommend if you’re looking for an authentic gado gado meal. It’s not worth the money. Service: Joyce was very nice to us and the service was quick. However when we went to the washroom to wash our hands they kept coming again and again to check who’s in the washroom and they asked what were we doing there lol. Like what will we be doing in the washroom other than washing our hands or use the toilet. They made it very uncomfortable. price: The total price was $95. Personally, I’d say it’s not worth all that amount of money. The price compared to the portion is a bit unfair. They might be targeting a different base of customers but I personally found the prices to be a bit high. They also charge something around 15% service fee. That’s my first time experiencing a dine in service fee. It might be a thing in Canada I don’t really know. Overall, I’d recommend it for a one time visit like if you’re asian and looking to taste your back home dishes. My review might not be fair as I only been there once, however that was my experience with them based on the meals we ordered and service they...
