Patisserie Gateau — Restaurant in Richmond Hill

Had ordered their well-known mango cake in December and it was really good so decided to order the same cake again last week for a special occasion.

I called 2 days in advance to order and asked specifically if they had mangos since it's not the season for ataulfo mangoes right now. They said yes so I placed my order for it. However, when I went to pick up the cake on the day, the lady tells me "by the way we ran out of the usual mangoes and used apple mangoes instead". This is not ok! They had my phone number and should've called me to ask me if I was ok with it. They screwed me over as I could've ordered a cake at another bakery if I had known earlier but it was too late.

Taste wise there's a big difference between the 2 different mangoes....ataulfo mangoes is the more premium one to use as it's more sweet and flavourful. The apple mangoes were more tart and didn't really have much mango taste. Not...

This small non descript bakery hidden in Richmond Hill is my go to place for delicious fluffy fresh Mango Cake. Trust me you won't be disappointed.

Asides from their famous fresh mango cake I've also had the pleasure to try their chestnut cake and it's equally fluffy and delightful

They also sell traditional Chinese buns like Pineapple buns but some different varieties stuffed with bbq pork and red bean. They also have fresh drawn milk tea and very flakey egg tarts!

While mainly for takeout they do offer a couple tables if you want to sit and enjoy your tea/coffee with your newspaper.

Prices are extremely reasonable and cheaper than other Chinese bakeries...

Had the Apple Creme Brulee and Black Forest cake slices. The Apple Creme Brulee slice was a good surprise as it tasted like an apple pie in cake form. There are pieces of cinnamon flavored apple in the cake. Black Forest cake slice had the jello bits and cherries.

I recommend the Sesame bun, filling was light and not overly sweet. Other buns I've tried so far were normal.
