Hello, I would like to say that I am a refugee from Urguay and that I am looking for Canada as a place of security, hope and happiness. When I visited gami sushi some time ago, it was nothing like that. (Use Google Translate). When I entered gami sushi for the first time, I was excited to eat here because my friends at the bar told me that this sushi restaurant was a success. I took my two diabetic sons to eat at a restaurant because they love their Californian rolls. When I was escorted to my table, my sons and I looked at the menu and saw a bento box for the children, I ordered two for my child, although I tried to order a bento box for the children for me, and the Asian girl with colored hair gave me a confused look and said "it's for the children". I then told the lady that I was not so hungry because I had just left the bar, then she told me to ask my manager.
I was then waiting 20 minutes and the people who sat after me already had their food, and my children were so hungry, confused and cold about why our orders were not placed.
I then met another Asian lady with glasses and she gave me a disgusting look and told me that I couldn't buy the children's bento box. I just said "why? I'm not so hungry" and she mocked and said "no, you can't, order something small like a roll". I simply couldn't understand that making three bento boxes for children was going to be so problematic and that my children were already hungry and becoming difficult with me. I told the director that I was going to take the salmon roll and once it arrived, it tasted very bad. It had the taste of having been frozen for decades and I was the one who ate it for my efforts to try to get three boxes of bento. I am convinced that the director has made sure that I get the worst fish to punish myself for my lack of English and my inability to get a children's bento box.
However, this is not the craziest part. Once I tried to pay for the horrible order, I gave a 10% tip as I usually do because in Uruguay, you don't tip, it doesn't exist. The director looked at me and rolled her eyes and said "is that all? And asked me if there was a problem. OF COURSE THERE WERE. I told her in response that I could no longer afford to tip because I need to feed my children and at home because I was going to freshco later to go shopping. She then started asking for more tips and that's when I decided to leave and never come back to this store.
I was humiliated, insulted and I felt poor in this establishment. I never knew that gami sushi was a place of...
Read moreFood and service here was fantastic. Was led to Gami Sushi by our so who frequents the place with his friends because the portions are big enough to share without breaking the bank. Important for high-school kids and parents alike. We ordered the beef teriyaki hotplate and the spicy Udon in soup. Amazingly delicious food!
Should've known as my son is usually a picky eater but wow!
The food was hot and fresh. My wife usually complains that her soups are not usually hot but this time she was happy from the get-go. The flavour of the teriyaki was bang on. Wife thought it was too sweet but combined with the Nanami-Togarashi seasoning, it was perfect. The veggies in the dishes perfectly balanced the meal both in quantity and flavour. The tea they serve is delicious and the teapot they serve it in keeps it nice and hot. My only complaint is that the teapot is very small and does not yield many servings - and oversight easily corrected by the servers who refill it frequently.
I was supposed to take photos of the food bur completely forgot because I was so enjoying it. Next time I go, I eill rake some.
The price was decent for the quality and quantity of food to be had in our order. We paid around $40.00 including taxes for three large dishes that left all of us completely satisfied.
The facility itself is cozy and comfortable. Nice, clean wooden tables, mixed with dark and muted Asian decor make the place a nice place to sit and eat. We went there at around 1730 hours and by the time we sat down to eat (12 minutes from the time we walked in, to the time our food arrived ) the restaurant filled up. It is not around very large place and it is very popular. I could see around three or four booths that can sit 6-8 people and seven to ten tables that can sit anywhere from 1 to 6 people.
They provide take-out and that part of the business seems huge. While eating I must have seen around at least 40 people come and pick-up or order take-out. That did not take away from my experience however as the staff work quietly, quickly and efficiently.
My son says that he's seen the line to get in, go around the building - around 20 to 30 parties waiting to get in and eat. There is a wait-list that you must sign, detailing how many people in your party. That day, There was an extra page of people signing in, waiting to get in.
Look up the busy times in Google before you go. Once there and eating, you will not be...
Read moreWe came here for dinner last night. There was no reservation. It was first come first serve. We had a party of 8 and they accommodated us. We had to wait not even 10 minutes. Staff was very nice and very accommodating. Their booties only seat 6 but I explained we had 4 small kids and they got us into a booth.
Every table was occupied and there was a waiting listing. Also there was crazy amounts of orders for take out and delivery. I counted at least 13 staff members. We placed our order and the food came out so quickly. We were impressed on how fast the food came out. But the food came out hot fresh and was delicious.
Their green tea was really good. It’s not that cheap green tea that you get sometimes. It was a Japanese green tea.
The Karaage Chicken was so good. Hot and nice and crispy. The kids enjoyed it.
Wild Salmon Sashimi - nice lean pieces of fish. Looked very fresh and smooth taste. This is a lean cut so not as rich as regular salmon.
Chicken Teriyaki Hot Plate - the chicken was moist and so tender. Really good tedious flavour with a nice bed of bean spiritus and vegetables. Not overly salty and the vegetable bed was a nice combo with the chicken.
Beef Tataki - so good! The beef was made from a good cut of beef and was not chewy. Beef was tender and had some kind of sauce sweet and salty sauce.
Beef Udon - the broth was well seasoned. The noodles were cooked perfectly. The kids loved this dish and even the adults did too. We ordered a chicken udon and it was good as well.
Party Tray C - sushi rice had good texture. was not sticky or mushy. Good amount of ginger and wasabi. There was a good variety of sushi in this tray. We enjoyed it all.
This place has amazing and fast service. The front and back staff worked well together. Have nothing but good things to say...
