The ambience is cozy and inviting, the tableware is super cute, and the plating is really pretty. It is quite expensive for the portion though. This is definitely a 'healthier' dessert place so if you're used to really sugary desserts, this may not be the place for you. I personally loved how their desserts aren't overly sweet. The soy soft serve is good (though don't expect it to be super creamy) and I love their soy floss, which was a unique touch. I do not recommend their soy milks.
Soy Soft Serve (4.5/5) This was great. It's not as icy as I thought it would be, and the flavour is light and refreshing. I loved the contrast of the mildly sweet soft serve and the slight saltiness/umami of the soy "pork floss". The red bean boba wasn't my favourite, but I don't really like boba anyways.
Signature Soy Pudding (3.5/5) This was nice. The amount of toppings was generous, and there was a large variety (red bean boba, taro, taro qq, pearl barley, red bean and mung bean). There seemed to be a bit of soy soft serve mixed with the tofu pudding, which I enjoyed. The fresh taro was tasty, but could be softer (I prefer the taro at Meet Fresh). The taro qq was chewy with a subtle taro flavour, and the rest of the toppings were also decent. The tofu pudding had a unique consistency which was surprisingly enjoyable. It's more dense than normal tofu pudding, but it's still soft and silky. The syrup is pretty watered down, but I didn't use any since it was already flavourful enough.
Taro Soy Milk (3/5) This was quite thick with a decent taro flavour.
Black Sesame Soy Milk (2/5) This had a nutty flavour from the sesame and was somewhat thick.
Oreo Soy Milk (1/5) This was not too thick and the oreo flavour tasted very...
Read moreI have never understood the appeal of tofu desserts until now, and now I am craving more!
First, the atmosphere is very warm, elegant but not pretentious or dull. It was not too busy on a weekday afternoon.
I ordered a custom soy pudding. You can choose 1-4 toppings from a good list. I picked grass jelly, taro yam balls, and sago (they were out of salted cream). I had my choice of pudding base, so I chose ginger brown sugar syrup. It was $12.50.
I sat down and waited for my order. It did take a little while, maybe between 5-10 minutes, but that was fine with me as it usually means the food will be fresh.
Presentation - really gorgeous, delicate and appealing. There were two scoops of brown sugar shaved ice (?) on top.
Flavor - The ginger is quite strong, and the syrup is very sweet and refreshing to contrast the unsweetened creamy soy. Really nice. The sago was super sweet, and the taro and yam offered a good nutty contrast that was fun to chew. The grass jelly was silky, flavored predominantly by just the syrup. I was worried that the flavors would be too strong, or bizarre, or would confuse my brain (again very new to the concept) but it was actually soooo good.
Texture - I loved slurping the cool syrup with scoops of all the toppings. The soy itself is separated into very smooth, silky strips. I liked the gummy texture of the sago the most, it had an easy chew. The taro yam balls were soft but not too soft, chewy but not overly annoying.
Serving - Very very filling. Took me a long time to eat it. I was so satisfied afterwards.
Overall - I really liked it, and I am craving more. The soy pudding is a great and refreshing...
Read moreAs a fan of tofu desserts, I'm underwhelmed and disappointed in the quality of food.
There wasn't a lot of "soy pudding" in the cups, and by itself it doesn't have a lot of soy bean taste. The syrup that comes with the toppings doesn't taste great and everything tasted really watered down. The worst were boba tapioca pearls which were extremely underdone/undersoaked; they were clumped together, hard to chew and just had a really bad texture overall, and I ended up tossing out all the pearls.
This was my first visit here. There wasn't any line up when i went in the evening around 730, so service was quick, and the shop itself looked cosy and clean, but other than that I found this experience to be a waste of food and money. Will not be returning.
Do yourself a favour and just buy some prepackaged dessert tofu from T&T and a can of grass jelly for a fraction of the price.
edited and responding: Revised cost to reflect TGTG and gave an additional star for that mistake, but the quality of food did not leave me with a good impression. The promise of TGTG still requires those items to be at least 3x value, so if the store is saying the amount i received is actually reflective of $21 at full price, that's not a good look. regardless of the cost, I would still be disappointed because the quality of the tofu dessert is not there. Your store chose to serve customers subpar and undercooked boba pearls that was hard and gritty in the centre and had to be thrown out, and tofu with underwhelming flavour. This does not leave new customers with a good impression on the food you serve to customers who...
