I was here when I flew out of the YVR international terminal in April 2023. For a snack before my flight, I had the candied salmon and ojibwe(sp?) wild rice pudding. Both of the snacks were so unique and delicious! The candied salmon had strips of candied (but fresh, not chewy like jerky) salmon with berries and greens, so it was like a mini salad. I had never heard of wild rice being used in rice pudding, and it was definitely different than the creamy puddings made with short-grain rice found in other cuisines, but the texture of the long grains in the pudding was nice and the earthy-floral flavour was interesting and pleasant. I just got grab and go things so there was no wait for my food to be prepared and the wait in line to order wasn’t bad. The staff were all beaming with enthusiasm which is very refreshing to see! I would definitely recommend this outlet if you’re looking to switch it up from the usual airport food and you want to get a taste of the local food culture because this is as truly local as it gets. Kind of expensive, but I’m not sure if you’d find a better deal at the other restaurants in this terminal (besides the fast food chains) and I’m pretty confident that this is the highest...

Ah yes. The good ol airport. Vast majority of people lined up at fast food places, ready for the inevitable flight where they feel disgusting the entire time. Sure it’s like 5$ cheaper, but what’s 5$? We’re in the damn airport 😂. I thought I would give this place a try as it is actually fairly healthy for what you get. There’s overnight oats, yogurt and granola, big salads. I got the Elk Burger and I got gluten free buns as well. They actually tasted surprisingly good. Could hardly tell they were gluten free. Didn’t have that chalky texture and the burger itself was nice and soft too. Usually elk has a much tougher gamey texture. The aioli was a nice touch as well. I’m just like everyone else. I hate spending more money at the airport too, but don’t let slightly higher prices deter you. You may as well pay a slightly higher price to not feel like you drank a cup of canola oil at some fast food place. Give it a try. I might have to give the west broadway location a try soon as well. Thanks again for serving...

After staying in Vancouver for 2 weeks and experiencing all it has to offer in terms of great places to eat, I didn't expect to be adding to the list a place at the airport! But that's what I got - an Indigenous-owned fast food joint where you can get really interesting food. I had the Elk burger and enjoyed it so much I went back and got the Pulled Bison burger. Both were absolutely delicious with juicy meat, nice bread and salad. Another bonus, for someone who is slightly gluten intolerant, is that they offer gluten free bread as an option and yet it still tastes good. The lady at the counter was super friendly too. You owe it to yourself to eat at the Salmon & Bannock if you're at Vancouver airport. I can't imagine why the adjacent Church's Texas Chicken or A&W chain stores get more custom than the Salmon & Bannock diner, although this is another reason to visit, as your queue time will be a...

This lovely little kiosk doesn’t have a huge line up like the Starbucks right next door so I think it goes unnoticed. The food is absolutely fantastic compared to all that surrounds it, prices are much more reasonable for the quality you get when comparing to the Lift bar/grill directly across. Salmon and Bannock obviously has salmon but also bison, elk burgers, poutines, rice pudding, coffee and a nice selection of beer and wine with a licensed seating area. Locality Brewing is Métis owned and operated and the Wild Side IPA was quite nice (much better than the standard bottles sold at the surrounding kiosks) and reasonably priced. The staff were the absolute sweetest! Do not waste your time at the chains or the Lift lounge and support this unique venture!!

One of the best gluten free breads I’ve had in a while. It’s like a slightly denser, nuttier flavor than a buttermilk biscuit would have. Very filling but not overly so. I didn’t try a sandwich although the salmon one looked so good, they were a bit pricey for my budget right now. Just the bread with butter and jam was perfect. Safety: they said they use different starches to substitute the flour and have a designated cooking space for the GF breads. The potential cross contamination comes from the shared kitchen where they prep things which is why it’s referred to as gluten friendly. I have celiac disease and am being moderately careful (traveling internationally is hard), if you’re being 100% careful you may react but I feel okay.
