A solid 5 star because the staff actually thanked me graciously for entering 10% tip on the card machine - something I on purpose did just to see what would happen when I did so. 10% had been quite a regular practice for I believe a lot of patrons at most Vancouver area Chinese restaurants but post covid, some had been quite snarky!! I’m not against tipping more at any place but have been a bit perturbed by this attitude at many establishments post covid- when such should depend on how pleased I am with the “service.” If the staff feels they are deserving of more pay - yes, do demand such but FROM the establishments and not give us patrons attitude instead. Ok, enough on this!! We just came for a quick simple repast - and the Tendon wonton noodle is acceptable, although the noodles came out over cooked (as happens often in North America) even though I had specifically asked to please undercook it (as most great Hong Kong wonton rezzies would). Oh well, still great flavours and wonton for $12.95. My better half’s Kwei Fay chicken at $18.50 was imho a bit expensive even though it was free range chicken and over a huge mound of rice. I guess all in all ok for a quick meal and I’m rating the place 5 stars as I was very pleased with the staff’s thanking me so graciously - for the minimal tip and when the both of them did give us very good service. Hmm… I should have added more tip...
Read moreMy sister and I were trying to find Alleluia Cafe for the second time, but Tsim Chai was the closest one (plus we already passed Alleluia Cafe neighbourhood) for us to go.
TC had a variety of menu including late night specials which is similar to Congee Noodle King near Joyce. Lots of seating spaces for sure. Because we walked in after 2 some staff started having their lunches and we had to flag the staff who was walking around. We didn't wait too long for our food. I liked our free drinks that included with our food.
My sister had Beef Brisket Wonton ($8.95) and I had Fried Pork Chop in Onion Sauce ($10.75); Pork Chop didn't look great, but it tasted good. As for Wonton, I thought it was the winner. It was like a mix of Beef Noodle with Wonton having amazing relationship of flavours combined together, lol. Yes, it was THAT good! Beef Brisket was so tender and soup was pretty good. I felt like it was the BEST Wonton noodle ever!
Portion was good enough for one person. Most customers seemed to be ordering noodles more than rice when I looked at other tables. Service was okay. I felt very bothered not seeing paper towels or hand dryer in the...
Read moreTypical Chinese restaurant, not keen on giving good service, historically this place was known for fair price, decent food, but don’t expect any more.
Ordered a congee today with mushroom and chicken, only two halves of a mushroom and few pitiful pieces of chicken were in the congee, two pieces tasted a bit rancid and the rest tasted flavourless. The best way to describe how tasteless they were, I think, they tasted like the leftover chicken that were previously used in making broth or soup, got fished out after hours of cooking down then got thrown into this congee. Just like the other review said, there was a ton of ginger in the congee, surprisingly, the only thing that got any flavour. If I had asked for no ginger, it would have been bland bland bland! Worst of all, there was piece of plastic in it.
This is not their first one star review, as there were plenty. I really don’t think that the owners care, time to move on. There are many other congee places in the area that offer good hearty congee at reasonable prices, and yes as consumers, we can...
