Country Boy — Restaurant in Rural Municipality of Gimli

On the Monday of the May long weekend Country Boy was one of few restaurants I could get into and turns out I will avoid it in future. I ordered the pickerel burger which took awhile which was okay as it was busy. It was a little pricey, advertised to have a homemade sauce but the inside of the bun was dry. There was some shredded lettuce with what seemed like oily Greek dressing sitting on the pickerel. So I went back to the counter and told the young guy and asked if they had mayo and ketchup. He looked like he didn’t really care, gave me a packet of ketchup and told someone who eventually plunked a small container of mayo on the other side of the counter. I then asked if they didn’t have some sauce like advertised? The young guy said yes but looked totally indifferent so I said never mind and took the mayo. I went back to the table then realized I wasn’t given any knife. So I went back to the counter, and was ignored until finally I just had to interrupt to ask. At this point, I didn’t even want to be there. When I finally got the burger together, I realized that the lettuce and oil concoction had made everything extremely soggy and I couldn’t even pick the bun up without it all falling apart. My family normally goes here every time we are in gimli, well after today, never again. We spent the day at the beach and decided to stop in to get my toddler son a kids meal to eat on the way home. I left him in the truck as it's not always an easy task getting him in and out. Well when I tried ordering it, the older woman at the counter told me I couldn't order a kids meal without having my kid with me. She suggested that I was ordering it for myself and actually made me get him out of the truck and prove I had a kid. Lady, it's not like 8 dollars is that great of deal for 2 chicken strips and fries that people are going to try and con you. It was supposed to come with a drink too which they didn't even offer my which was ok cuz I wouldn't have been able to carry it with my son in my arms anyways. Then I had to deal with my son having a melt down, as predicted, getting him back into my truck. Another customer was surprised I even went back and gave her my business. I almost didn't go back but I didn't want her to have the satisfaction of thinking she was right and that I was a liar. I hope she feels bad. Plus, my son needed to eat....

So disappointed. Would not recommend. Wouldn’t eat here again. Heard it was good so we checked it out. Don’t think anyone over 18 was working, if they were, barely. None of the employees wanted to be there you could tell. The boy taking our order kept spacing out. Food was less than ok. Double burger was nothing special, kids hated the jr burger, pickerel burger was super disappointing as it was mostly a bun!! I ended up taking off the bottom bun after 2 bites so I could actually taste my meal. Fries were a large helping but they were so greasy most of ours went untouched, same with sweet potato fries. Would not recommend or eat here again. We had other relatives say the same thing on different days this week!! We had ice cream there as well, lots of selection but I’m not sure if their freezers are going or they took their time getting it to us, it melted as it was passed to us. I know it’s summer and it’s hot but it shouldn’t be melting being passed out the window...
