My family is from Digby, so I'm used to having super fresh and flavourful fish and chips everytime I go over there. Nothing in SJ ever really came close, but I was craving fish and chips so badly. My husband is British, so I guess you could say we're pretty picky with our fish and chips. He had heard about this place from a coworker, so we decided to give it a try and got the beer battered fish and chips with a side of gravy. My husband ordered it for takeout. He said it was such a cool atmosphere inside, and he was greeted by a very friendly gentleman who said to him "When I heard that accent on the phone I figured I better throw in some extra malt vinegar packets". My husband thought this was hilarious and greatly appreciated the gesture. The quality and flavour of everything was fantastic, and the price for the amount and quality is superb. The haddock pieces were very large and thick, with beautiful crispy paper thin batter as it should be. The fries were crispy with extra flavour from the skins and some thick ground salt to top. The gravy was a thick dark gravy packed with flavour, and I greatly enjoyed the coleslaw as well. You now have two new...
Read moreWhile the food at this place is quite consistently good, their atmosphere and the overall setup of the restaurant is just kind of strange. When you enter youâre greeted with a banner/ribbon barrier that an employee must open before you enter, sort of like youâd see outside the door of an exclusive night club. This is particularly awkward when youâre trying to leave as it blocks the door completely. As well, many of the chairs are quite uncomfortable and arranged with the tables in such a way that at some you canât get your legs under the table comfortably but have to instead straddle a table leg or take some other kind of awkward position. The tables are overall too close together as well and I found it resulted in constantly feeling like youâre staring at other people or their food for lack of anywhere else to look.
Burgers are great. Everything they make is decent at worst. I suppose that makes up for the oddities elsewhere for their regulars, of which there...
Read moreI went into the restaurant with some co workers, after the waitress who I believe her name was âMalâ was asked if they provided âhalalâ chicken she said she did not know what that was and started mocking and making fun of it. She went and did some research and came back saying she knew what that was and understood that it is a religious accommodation for meat, yet, she still made fun of it after. I later asked for a straw, then she proceeded to ask me if âpaper strawsâ were halal, and later tell me how she will be reading her prayers when bringing it to me and laughed. Then, on my way out after we paid for the food, she says something along the lines that she will make sure she lets the management know about the âhalalololoâ thing and proceeds to mock it and make fun of it again.
This was very racist, islamophobic, and disrespectful. I will not be going back to that restaurant after that incident, I was treated in a very poor and racist manner and this...
